I got myself a nice bottle opener from the Thistle shop, as well as a commemerative programme before the game.

In other news we were woeful. They couldn't care less. Morton brought good numbers but seemed fairly subdued except for some wild goal celebrations. Probably the nerves played a part though.

Roll on next season. We've scored 3 goals in 11 games. Yuck

Typical thistle you cant rely on them for anything

We were excellent today and fully desreved the win. In saying that, Thistle never really turned up but, hey, not to worry.

What the hell has happened to Brian Wake? Goal machine and quality target man in the making, gret performance again tofay and two well taken goals. Finlayson's belter from 25 yards was also sometjing special, that's two good goals in two weeks for him. Thistle's only real chance was when their striker rounded Robinson early in the first half but Alex Walker got back to clear off the line.

All in all, well chuffed with that! Credit to Thistle as well, free entry to under 16s probably encouraged a lot more to come and £10 entry with a student card is decent.

Roll one next season now, I'm actually quite optimistic ph34r.gif

Hard to argue with that assessment, delighted with our showing today. Thistle fans must be equally dismayed at the performance their guys dished out.

Well don the Ton, it's always good to know that when you really need a 3-0 win Thistle always provide.
Lianne
First ten minutes or so it was pretty even and Chaplain had that shot cleared off the line by Walker, but after the ball fell nicely for Wake to open the scoring Morton never looked back. It was a combination of a few things - namely our defending being awful, Morton getting most of the breaks, the referee being terrible, and most importantly, Morton players wanting it so much more than Thistle, that led to Morton fully deserving their win. We were simply shite, but in all honesty we've been playing like that for the last few weeks now, the players have just given up after being knocked out of the cup by Rangers. Poor stuff.

But, we should have had a penalty to make it 3-1 near the end when Keegan was flattened. Looked an absolute stonewaller!

I wouldn't deny that, but he can miss 3 sitters and score 2 goals in 1 game every week and that would be fine by me biggrin.gif

"He hits the ball and scores a goal Brian Brian Wake"

Never thought I would sing that but I did.

Without meaning to be a sore winner, GIRUY Clyde but good luck in the playoffs tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Brian Wake is becoming something of a hero right now. Probably because of the stick he was getting. He's proven everyone wrong recently, as he has become a terrific striker for us. Everything that Weatherson should be and isn't.

Morton deserved their win today but don't be fooled. only one team had something to play for this afternoon and it showed big time.

I don't know about that. Partick looked to be up for it. Unlike that bunch of Fifers that came down to Greenock the other week, Partick looked interested in getting some sort of result from the game, and maybe should have scored a goal or two.

I agree - while Morton's performance was excellent and committed, people seem to be forgetting that Thistle had chances of their own.

Was the ref from Greenock?
Thistle were absolite p!sh apart from Tuffey who made a few great saves.

I remember Chaplain's chance first half that was cleared off the line, and a nice run and shot by Roberts which went just past the post but that's about it for me.

We were really rubbish, compared to what we've been used to seeing at home. Even if we were playing at our peak, Morton might have beat us though.
EKACCIES
Well done Morton , Wake has two problems, too much time to think , then he misses, low on confidence he misses.

Get his confidence back, give hoim chnaces and we will score.

Accies have moved on to another level, just hope it's not too short lived.
Exuberant
Utter rubbish from Thistle. Second Morton Goal a cracker.

Jags best player was Tuffey and even then, his kicking was occasionally suspect and he made a couple of mistakes. But for him, it would have been 5 or 6.

The ref did not give one decision for us in the 90 minutes that anything short of a 100% certainty, so what the f**k you are on I'd like to know!

The ref was woeful, mainly favouring Morton, but some of his decisions were just plain stupid. He awarded Morton a free-kick for next to nothing one minute then 30 seconds later denied you a blatant free-kick on the left hand side of the penalty box late in the 2nd half.

Thistle confirmed we had 2600 supporters at the game today, and didn't we enjoy it!

Thistle weren't as committed or motivated while Morton (a special mention here to Chris Millar in particular) were under every ball, tackling and fighting for all their worth.

And of course we owe our dramatic and emphatic end to the season largely to the new management team of Davie Irons and Derek Collins who have rekindled the passion both in the players and in the fans, so a big thank you to them.

Brian Wake. Brian f*cking Wake!! biggrin.gif

Thistle's match report describes Kevin Finlayson's wonderful goal as a 'deflected strike'. Having been in a good position to see the path of the ball I can confirm that this is pish. Tremendous finish, he may never score a better or more important goal.

Just a fantastic day for all of our fans, players, directors and management alike, I can't wait for next season now.

What a day - 2700 Morton supporters contributed to an attendence which was bigger than that of the Motherwell v Dundee United game inwhich a european place was to be fought for. This is the first division - Scotland's real league - and we're still fucking in it.

An enormous shout out to Davie Irons - a true passionate footballing man who has pulled this Titanic from the bottom of the sea and into safety.I can't express my thanks anymore to Davie and Derek on the work they have put in over the last two and a bit months to turn this around and especially the way we have conducted ourselves in the last few games.

We will come back next season with an idea of what is needed to gain something in this division and i can only hope we will have more moments of joy like that in season 08/09.

"We Are Staying Up,Say We Are Staying Up".

As for the match.Look no further than goals one and two - f**k knows what happened for number three,Brian Wake scored it so it must have been a belter.Wakey took the first one so well after we passed up a great oppertunity in the opening minutes when McGuffie left the shot for Partaalu who was thwarted - Wakey took the ball on his chest roughly 10 yards out, toughed it to the side and finished beautifully with his right foot.

Finalyson then added a second on half time - and an absolute belter it was.25 yards out and with an out swurving shot, past a sea of players and more importantly into the net.I don't think i've celebrated a goal any harder in my life.

The third - couldn't see it.It was about 100 yards away and it was a right scrappy one - finished by Wake !

Fantastic peformance from the boys yesterday. We dominated the majority of the game and if it was not for Tuffey then it could have been really embarassing for Thistle. It was great to see all the Ton fans out in force today and all fully behind the team.

I owe an apology to Davie Irons - I was gutted when he was announced as boss, but he has proved me wrong. One Davie Irons...

firstly hard luck to clyde, part of me feels sorry for them but if im being honest we were the 8th best team in thi league of the whole season so i feel its deserved.

i thought we were excellent today in the first half, second half i thought was more even except from we wanted it far more than thistle.

had a great day out, met davie irons brother and spoke to davie on the phone, both really nice people and cant thank them enough for changing our season around. when i say them i dont mean his brother, although what a cool guy tongue.gif

I had to laugh at the dozen or so Ton fans who were escorted from the Jackie Husband stand into the one behind the goal.

There were a few wry smiles on their faces, so I assume that they paid into the Thistle end (to avoid the huge queue) and then politely informed a steward that they had made a mistake. rolleyes.gif

I guess we won't be too popular round Broadwood. Ach well, life goes on!

Shame our end to the season detracts from the progress made over the course of the season. The manager was pretty low last night.

Basically our season ended after the Rangers replay. Players I feel gave everything they had up to and including the replay and had nothing left after that. Three pretty miserable performances followed. Buchanan and Archibald have been big misses. Archibald's operation seems to have gone well so perhaps the lower end of the estimate for his return and he can celebrate his testimonial season by reaching the 300 appearance landmark for Thistle.

Clearly they are a few areas that need addressed over the summer but at least, unlike last season where IM had to put almost an entire team together, the manager can be a little more, funds permiting, focused in the tranfer market.

Great Morton support yesterday. You will be glad we were so shite.

Although we would have done the same, it was bizarre seeing a team and fans celebrating like that when they'd just finished third bottom.

Horrible way to end the season. I remarked before the game that there was an optimism, enthusiasm and self belief emanating from Firhill that hasn't been witnessed for quite some time. However, by the end of the 90 minutes, it was Morton's day and many of the Thistle fans that had entered the stadium with smiles on their faces were walking out with clouds hanging over them.

It was clear from that performance that Morton really needed the win. They were outstanding from start to finish, but if I were a Ton fan I'd be questioning why they hadn't played like that for the majority of the season. Wake bullied and harried our backline and Millar often appeared to be in three places at once, such was the effort he put in - St Johnstone have got a real gem on their hands.

I think the referee deserves a mention. He seemed entirely aware of how much the match meant to Morton and appeared reluctant to give any decisions against them. I thought there was a foul in the build up to the first goal and we should have had what looked like a stonewall penalty in the second half. Sure, we could've missed, but had we scored, we would be looking at a play off for the play off. It was a crucial decision and he bottled it big time.

One last thing, I can now empathise with St Johnstone fans. Seeing Davie Irons jumping about on the pitch like a fanny has ruined my season.

When you consider that 2 weeks ago we looked dead and buried and almost certain for the playoffs, it was just brilliant to be assured of a place in the First Division. Also, a 3-0 win at Firhill is a fantastic result, especially as we hadn't won there for 12 years before yesterday.

As for Davie Irons jumping about, it was a great sight - you would love it if Ian McCall did that when Partick had something to celebrate. Admit it. tongue.gif
