Seem to be having problems again.

We recently went wireless and have a router from tiscali. All well and good. It was set up for the home pc and my laptop and worked fine.

A few weeks ago when Cal was on the home pc he was unable to access the internet. I'm not sure if this was around about the same time that we got a 2nd laptop or if its just a coincidence. Since then we have been unable to access the internet on the home pc.

When looking at it today - the icon says "acquiring network address". All the IP address things say 0. Cal maintains that he hasn't done anything to the computer and all settings look ok. However I'm not an expert and my knowledge is pretty basic when it comes to technology. All I know is that it was working ok and now its not. Both laptops have no problem with access.

Anyone any ideas??

Have you tried resetting the router?
Also if it is wireless it could be signal strength.
Ayrgirl
Tried resetting it but not sure if I did it right.

Signal seems good on the laptop so presume it would be the same for the pc.

They can be very fussy about position. I'm no expert though, so hopefully someone else on here will have a better idea.

XP or Vista? (or, I suppose, Mac?)
Reina
If it was a Mac, it would work wink.gif

Pc is XP. Laptops are Vista.

Have you tried switching it off and back on again?
Ayrgirl
Computer or Router?

The pc off/on switch is broken so we have to put it on standby. If we switch it off it won't go back on at all.

Pc is XP. Laptops are Vista.

I'm flying blind here (only have Vista and Server 2003 in the house now), but I think it's a similar process...

Start -> Connect To -> Show all connections.

Right-click on "Wireless Network Connection" and click "Properties".

Under "This connection uses the following items:" scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and double-click on it.

Make sure the checks are in the boxes "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

Click OK then OK again and see if it works.

If it doesn't, then I'd guess at there being a problem with the security, i.e. they WEP or WPA key stored in the PC is incorrect. But best to cross that bridge only if needs be.

Thanks - will try that tomorrow.

Already set at the above.

Thanks guys. It appears to be working now.
