Typical, game doesn't matter, I can't go and Stirling are currently 3-1 up against St Johnstone.
Why couldn't they do this before it didn't matter! mad.gif

Because St. Johnstone really couldn't give two fucks?

It doesn't matter, you say...

Actually in many games this season Stirling have either been equal or the better team, yet couldn't score a goal to save themselves, this makes tonights result even more annoying as if they had found someone to score the goals they certainly made the chances for, then who knows they may have finished 8th. mad.gif

If this stays as it is, then Livi beat St Johnstone 2-0 and Queens beat Dunfermline 3-0 (or any other set of scorelines that cause a 5-goal swing), Queens finish 3rd.

A bye into the 4th Round of the Scottish Cup.

And being seeded in the first round of the league cup.

Apart from that? Nothing really.

So you'd feel satisfied if you finished 8th every season? huh.gif

Touche.

No i would not be satisfied finishing 8th each season. I would be as equally dissatisfied as i would be finishing less than 1st my friend.

Depending on Gretna's future, 5th may also be awarded a bye into the 4th round

Clutching at staws? You betcha!

Do you not get slightly more money for finishing higher in the league?

Anyway, cracking game with a lot of action. We got the softest pen. ever for our first (where were these lucky breaks during the season!!) and then it was mostly all Stirling after James got sent off. The game felt like a pre-season friendly with so few fans. Anyway, I'm happy to see us get rid of a 20 year hoodo against St Johnstone tonight.

Theres about five grand difference between Accies winning the first division and East Stirling finishing last in the third. The prize money is pitiful.

Very entertaining game for what was basically a friendly. I just wish we'd shown the same desire and hunger the rest of the season, as we played really well tonight. A 3-1 win with loads of chances missed against a decent 1st Division side.

And the thing is, we've matched Saints virtually all season in the head-2-heads.

So, so frustrating.

Decent work out for the St Johnstone side on show last night. As expected, changes were made and the matchday squad contained nine players aged 23 or under, including three 18-year-olds. It's really a total turnaround from the last few years when Steven Anderson (still only 22-years-old) has been the only youngster getting a look in.

The game started in a decent manner and Weatherston had an early chance for Saints after beating his man for pace and carrying the ball from the halfway line, only to find Christie with his shot. The Binos then had a couple of good chances before Kevin James rose highest to nod home a Liam Craig corner.

I'm not sure what to make of Stirling's first PK! Liam Craig goes up for a header on the angle of the box and the Binos player leans forward... Ref points to the spot! Well despatched by Aitken though. They then got another PK moments later when McKenna worked himself free and his goalbound effort was knocked off the line by the hand of Kevin James. No mistake from Aitken again. I think the rest of the half was the only time one side was really on top and Stirling didn't let us out of our own half.

Second half was entertaining and end-to-end though with both sides having good chances. Harris missed several for Stirling and Weatherston should at least have hit the target after another good run. McBreen forced Christie into another good save and there was also an incident where Ellis (I think) came right over the top of McBreen on the edge of the six yard bos and the ref gave nothing. How he can rule that not a PK after giving one against Liam Craig, I'll never know!

We were punished with a third goal after trying to pass the ball out of defence. Moon all of a sudden had three men on him and lost possession and Rodriquez finished well.

Like I say, a useful exercise for the younger players and I'd expect to see a similar sort of line up against Livingston on Saturday. Giving these guys a chance is far more important that whether we finish two or three places behind Hamilton!

Of course but like i have said before no-one has a divine right to win this league. In the grand scheme of things it means nothing financially or promotion wise if you finish 2nd or 8th. Although the bye and seeding in the cups reduces the amount of games you play which is one thing.

After Sunday its a case of going through the motions for us and minimising the chances of suspensions for the key start to net season. Just a pity no-one told Kevin James!! laugh.gif

I wasn't really bothered about the result in the end. I was left a bit miffed when James made a fantastic save on the line with his hand, i would have rather he let it in and hopefully we would have still controled the game and had a better chance of getting back into it. It was actually a good excercise to see how we could cope with ten men going on for the whole match whilst still playing three up front up front for most of the game. We only conceded one stupid goal even though we were in this situatuion which is quite good i suppose.

Weatherston, Craig and Main were our best three players i think. Stephen Kerr looked very nervy even in a game like this which is a bit concerning.

The referee was quite poor i think considering what he judged as a foul for the first penalty and the same thing happens in the second half with an extreme twist where the defender was climbing all over McBreen and managed to stay on top of him mid-air for about ten seconds but that wasn't a penalty.

I quite enjoyed the game strangely enough. The highlight was the Stirling's number 3 screaming for the ball like a girl.

Maybe if you'd attend some games instead of sitting on here pontificating about Leeds United the club would have had more money to invest in the team.

Yeh, I'll leave my young kids alone at home and go to a football game on a Wednesday night, I mean it's less important!

Not sure if it's just my mind playing tricks, but McBreen looked like he'd aged about 5 years and put on 3 stone when I saw him come on in the semi final ohmy.gif

Still put in a decent shift though.

He's nowhere near full fitness but that's not surprising as he's played very little football in recent times. Wouldn't say he looks particularly heavy when you see him live, also no issues with his work rate considering his current state.

Adds a different dimension when he's in the side and with the knowledge that he'll benefit from a good pre-season, I'd expect to see him at least offered a new deal. He's actually got a better touch than Kenny Deuchar IMO but the acid test will be if he can offer the same sort of goal return.
