Does anyone know what a player has to do to qualify for a league medal? I ask as this season David Winters has played for both Hamilton and Ross County, and both teams won their respective championships. Winters has played 14 league appearances for Hamilton and 5 for Ross County. So the question is will he get both medals?

It's at the discretion of the club. They're given a set amount of medals and they choose to distribute them as they see fit. They also have the option of purchasing extra. I don't know how many they get, but 22 rings a bell.

Cheers Ruggy. I was reading up on it and the FA only give out medals to players that have made ten league appearnces, but clubs can purchase extra like you said. For example Manchester United commissioned a medal for Henrik Larsson despite only making seven appearances. I can't find anything on the SFL rules. I imagine you remember well from Falkirk's champonship winning team three seasons ago.

Not sure about SFL, but the SPL has the same system as the EPL. Roy Keane got one at Celtic the other year after playing 10 games I think, and if memory serves played while not 100% fit win order to get one. How proffessional rolleyes.gif Also I remember Celtic buying an extra league medal for Alan Stubbs the first time he was diagnosed with cancer as he had only played 7 games or so.

I always thought a player in the SFL had to have played 10 games to qualify for a medal. No idea if that's accurate or not

I'm given to understand it's people who have played more than a quarter of the games in the league but that the SFL set a limit of medals and the clubs then have to fork out if they want more.

Yep, I remember Paul Hartley having to play in all of the last eight games for Celtic last season to be eligible for a Championship medal, a feat he achieved.

Shaun Maloney didn't get one as he left Celtic having appeared in nine league matches.

It was 20 when we won the second division in 2002, though it may have changed since. We bought an extra three, two of which went to the two reserve keepers who had sat on the bench about 30 times between them without ever playing a game and the other is in the Queens museum.

As Ruggy has already said, there is NO qualifying appearance criteria for the SFL. The club can give the 20 medals it gets to whoever it wants, including the tealady if it suits them. When we won it they went to the 20 players still at the club with most appearances, several of whom had played less than 10 games. Sean O'Connor (8), Steve Bowey (8) and George O'Boyle (7) all got medals.

We didn't give any to any players who had departed during the season (Warren Hawke, Des McKeown and Jon Sunderland being the three who might have been considered). Whether Accies choose to give medals to the likes of Brian Wake and David Winters is entirely up to them.

Looks like he will get fuck all then!
