I'm surpised no-one's mentioned this yet wink.gif

Hibs/ Dundee Utd/ Motherwell will play the winners of the first round tie between the Swedish representatives or Havnar Boltfelag (Faroes).

From what I gather the winner then plays Bohemians (RoI), Rhyl (Wales), Skonto Riga (Latvia) or Fylkir (Iceland).

Dundee Utd and Motherwell haven't applied this year.

It'll either be Falkirk or Hibs in the Interntoto this year.

Only Hibs and Falkirk applied. Elfsborg (Sweden) will be strong - the rest are eminently beatable.

Excellent opportunity for the Scottish representative. It also makes the claim from Makoliunas that it would be pointless the diet huns entering it as they wouldn’t qualify, look even more ridiculous.

Any chance you can unapply wink.gif

I'd love Falkirk to be in this. Would have every chance of winning a round or two.

If Hibs finish 3rd, then we will enter the UEFA Cup (in the First Round, unless Queen of the South beat Rangers): as a result Falkirk would qualify for the InterToto Cup, as the only other applicant.

InterToto winners enter in Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Cup, beside Queen of the South.

It's a shame that Scottish clubs have only taken note of this competition this year as they certainly do have a chance to progress to the UEFA Cup. I'll certainly go along to the home leg of the Scottish side at either Easter Road or the Falkirk Stadium.

Thanks for the update as to who applied too oops.gif

This is of course the last-ever InterToto Cup, which is a bit sad I think. The competition began in the 1960s as The Intercontinental Cup (Ajax were first winners) - initially group-stages and then knock-out, to fill the close season. However, after a few years it became too hard to organise the knock-out rounds - so it became a cup with no winner!! UEFA took it under its wing in early 1990s, reintroducing knock-out rounds, and used it as a route to the UEFA Cup. They dropped the groups shortly afterwards, and it was reformed again (from 5 rounds down to 3) from summer of 2006.

Only Partick Thistle, Dundee and Hibs (twice) have entered from Scotland - 4 out of possible 20+.

Falkirk can't apply from what I am away of. You need to be within a specific position in relation to the lowest European qualifying team in the league. With Falkirk in a position where they can't get higher than 7th I think the route is now blocked for them.
HibeeJibee
Provided you finish in the top 12 of the domestic league top tier, you can qualify. Falkirk are fine.

In fact:
Associations are entitled to enter only top-division clubs that finish their domestic championship in the four positions immediately below those that qualify for the UEFA Cup, and that have indicated their willingness to take part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

So 7th is 4 places behind 3rd.

Edit to add: also, they damned well better finish 7th as there is a significant fine, and the threat of a ban from entering any clubs in the UEFA Cup the following season, should an association request a slot and fail to take it up. This has happened before, admittedly to smaller nations.

... don't be ridiculous, Penguin. I clearly know far too much about the rules to be Gordon Smith.

Mentioned on the BBC now.

Scots learn Intertoto opponents

QUOTE
Hibernian and Falkirk have indicated their interest in the cup

Scotland's Intertoto Cup representatives will play Torshavn or Elfsborg when they enter the competition early in July.

Only Falkirk and Hibernian intimated to the Scottish FA that they wished to be considered for the single slot available in the competition.

So one of them could be heading for the Faroe Islands or Sweden this summer.

Hibs are also involved in a battle for third place in the SPL that would gain them access directly to the Uefa Cup.

I was actually thinking the other day that you must work at the SFA or something! You always seem to have the correct quotes to hand for rules and stuff. I think it was you saying that the season would near definitely be extended should Rangers qualify for the Uefa Cup final, then the next day the SPL come out and say as much...
Vintex
Thats a fine draw for Scots, for example Croats clash with Spanish club in possible 3rd round.
