Full Version: Fiorentina
The Pie Shop > The Cups > Scots in Europe

Just watching them live v Palermo and Donadel has scored a cracker in the 30th, they look real good with lots of one touch and the ball constantly in motion, physical with it at the back, no pushovers.

From what I can see, a lot of their goals come from long shots, we'll have to make sure we close them down quickly in the middle of the park, their defence for an Italian team (in Europe anyway, not sure how they are defensively in the Serie A) is pretty poor, I'm confident we'll get a few goals against them, key is not to concede which we are good at.

Optimistic going into this game! If Everton can nearly take them out, I see no reason why we can't knock them out.

I would say it's difficult to calll, I'm just watching them in the 90th and they are as fit as feck, very well organised in defense though they are very much a team going forward and don't forget Palermo have Bresciano the thug, ( just been yellowed btw) and he can't break them down, Viera is the beef going forward, tough cookie and he will take some stopping, all in all I've seen a well balanced team all working for each other tonight.

If you can find a copy of the Fiorentina/Everton first leg they will blow you away. Everton were poor on that night, but they were ripped a new asshole. If Fiorentina show a similar level of game over one of the two legs, the tie is dead and buried.

That said, I actually want Rangers to get through.
Disraeli
I would be delighted with a 0-0 draw, in the first leg.

I think we would be confident going to Florence if we avoid conceding at Ibrox.

I disagree Disraeli.

While 0-0 would not be the worst result for us to take over there, our luck can only hold out so long.

I see this as another Bremen type game, where we need to try and take a 2 goal cushion to Florence and try and weather the storm, which we are more than capable of. The only two goals we have conceded in the Uefa Cup this season have been wonder strikes remember, so our defence is pretty solid.

And if it is a 0-0, for the love of God dont let it be as shite as the ones against Pana and Sporting! mad.gif

Regardless of the result at Ibrox, Fiorentina will destroy Rangers in Italy (if they need to)

Rangers have no hope in hell

If you're basing that on Everton's ties against them Fudge, you have to remember that Rangers are more defensively orientated than Everton, and IMO more defensively sound.

If Rangers need to get a clean sheet in Italy, I think we will. We certainly wouldn't gift them any cheap goals. To score against us in Europe at the moment it needs to be a bit special on recent evidence.

It'll be a very tough game for us, but we've shown terrific resiliance so far in the competition so I have every faith in Walter and the boys. Obviously our chances have been hampered greatly by injuries and suspensions, but if we can just take a lead into the 2nd leg we have every chance. Saying that though, I do feel that it could be a bridge too far for us.

fiorentina is a good team with a god players:not forget frey(a great goalkeeper)ujfalusi, montolivo, liverani, kuzmanovic, santana.jo
rgensen.vieri, pazzini and (maybe their best player)adrian mutu...they have also a good coach(cesare prandelli)

but i don't think the can repeat the perfect mach against psv in holland...remenber that they were lucky against everton at goodison park

i think the home matches will be important....for me the european rangers experience will be important

Are you a closet Tim?

I want a Scottish team to do well in Europe but I think for Rangers this game might be a bridge too far, Fiorentina achieved what theset out to do last week and if they had scored it would have been a bonus, at times even the diehards must admit they made Rangers look tacky.

So I thinkit will be a totally different game in Florence, more open and it's more than likely that Rangers will score but I very much doubt that they will win, Donadel and Vieri blend well and any defense finds Vieri hard to handle, as already mentioned Donadel likes long balls straight at goal with Vieri and Mutu waiting to pounce on any defensive fumbles, it seems to be something they have worked on and they are good at it.

Rangers have done well to get this far and if they do go out I really hope we don't have Smith bleating on about the fixture backlog and making a fool of himself and Rangers.
