As someone who appreciates good footballers the following Celtic players were amongst the best ever to play league football in this country :

Jimmy Johnstone
Bertie Auld
Lubo Moravcik
Charlie Nicholas
Tommy Gemmell
Tommy Burns
Maurice Johnston
Danny McGrain
Kenny Dalglish
Nakamura
Paul McStay

I`m sure Celtic fans will say I`ve missed a few and Rangers fans will wonder what this is all about so please feel free to give your comments, abusive or otherwise.

We should always enjoy watching good players no matter their club.

McStay??? Lubo the Gypsy??? You are taking the piss and just looking for a reaction? You haven't mentioned Larsson, Van Hoodwink i would even rate Paul Elliot above those 2.

Edit to add....I had not noticed Nakamura. Now i know it is a piss take.. wink.gif

Yeh....unfortunately not worth the money either. Personally I thought Petrov did a good job for Celtic, when he wasn`t falling down that is!

Larsson didn`t make my list because I didn`t think he was as talented on the ball as the others.

He was a good player and knew the way to goal but he wasn`t able to ghost past players the way the others could.

McGeady maybe would make my list if he continues to develop over a few seasons because at the end of the day it`s about entertainment. That`s what fans will always pay for even if the team is poor.
JGleeson Esq
Danny McGrain's my favourite. One of the best defenders this country has ever produced. smile.gif

restricting myself to the present squad.... the obvious one's would be mcgeady , and also Robson who i think at this stage is already showing signs of c;lass , but if pushed I'm afraid i would have to go for a less obvious choice of Hartley. a player who is aware of the term discipline, and that is vital in any winning team...

PS i,am writing this with a whisky in one hand , and a cigar in the other , and cant be arsed correcting my grammar or spelling, so dont pull me up for it....

no Charlie Tully?

Moravcik was a great player to watch, especially when he diverted Bobby Mann's header into the net in February 2000.

Your punctuation's shocking. wink.gif

Never mind that he didn't make a list of all-time greats that has Nakamura and Maurice Johnstone on it, the fact that the OP goes on in a subsequent post to state he didn't think Larsson was any good on the ball completely invalidates not only his right to judge a footballer from Celtic, but also his claim that this post was made on a purely footballing basis.

Let's ask Bert Konterman if Larsson's any good on the ball.

Totally uncalled for! I might complain. mad.gif

Have you any idea the amount of money I've spent on therapy and hypnosis to try and forget Bertie Bombscare going toe to toe with Larsson?

His goal at Hampden was a thing of beauty though tongue.gif

Read the post topic - my favourite players who played for Celtic and to me Larsson wasn`t as good as the others. If you don`t agree do your own list. It`s all about opinions.

I liked Momo Sylla through pity because he looked incredibly malnourished. Probably weighed about 8 stone.

Good joke- I wonder how many more will bite?

No Stephan Mahe?
