Hi all.

I'm considering asking for an iPod (possibly the iPod classic 80GB) for my 18th birthday, to replace my 4.5 GB Rio Carbon, plus a dock for it.

Do you reccomend getting an iPod? and does it ever have the same problems as the Rio Carbon? (i.e. rebooting itself when playing certain songs).

Go for it... I've had no problem with mine whatsoever.

Edit - I only have a Nano (I think that's the name of it!)... and nothing approaching 80gb!

I've had a couple of iPod Nanos and so far not had any problems with them. I like them because they're small, I also have a 40Gb Sony Vaio which has better sound quality but is pretty chunky and a couple of years old. It did freeze on me a couple of times, but to be honest that's not that unlikely with any software.

I think iPods in general have a bad reputation for lifespan and are more likely to pack in but I also know people who've had the same one for years and never had any real issues.

Going to move this into E-Chat, but the link will stay in GN. I think you'll get more geeks to answer you in E-Chat.

I've had my 4th gen 20GB iPod for about 3/4 years and never had a problem with it. It's wonderful and the battery still lasts a good 6 hours.
