Full Version: Qos Uefa Cup Place?

Am I wrong in thinking that QOS will get an UEFA cup place (providing Rangers make the final) If so then what's the point on Celtic and Rangers doing their best to raise the coefficient, only to see (with all respect) a team that will get pumped in the first round , get a UEFA cup place? Surly the UEFA cup place must go to the highest available league place? sad.gif

as long as they dont get artmedia bratislava, they can hump most european giants at least 5-0 in the first round.

Sorry to point out the obvious

Why bother playing the games then? Surely their should be a reward for the cup.

Queens beat Aberdeen to earn a place in the final. It's not their fault (or ours when we beat Rangers again) that SPL teams haven't been good enough to reach this stage of the competition.

So a first division club will be in Europe. Would 4th place team do much better?

I think the cup should be reward enough. If we want to improve the standing of Scottish teams in Europe, then surly the UEFA cup place must go to the 3rd or 4th team in the top division?

Although you may have a point ph34r.gif .

Also, if they lose to Rangers in the final and then go out of Europe straight away, they are only losing in a qualifying round (Qualifying Round 2 to be precise) which does little damage to the big co-efficient anyway.

admittedly mate, yes. the team who finish 4rth will most likley do much better.

Aberdeen got into the last 32, and we just beat them, so who knows!

Realisitically we are unlikely to do any better than Dunfermline or Gretna has in recent years.

I suspect the rules will be changed by next year, and then it would be the 4th placed team!
myshkin
Who cares about the mythical coefficient.

Queens have only done what the rules at the start of the season stipulated.

Good on them and I hope they enjoy their trip in Europe (other semi final permitting of course).

As someone mentioned they can't do any worse than Gretna and Dunfermline did.

You usually post nonsense but on this occasion what you say is bang on – quite how it makes you thick god only knows.

The cup place should only go to a team if they actually win the cup.

Yes, because the 3rd and 4th placed teams have been exceptionally strong in the last 25 years and have no doubt helped increase the coeffient rating enormously. laugh.gif

Anyway dry your eyes, this is the last year of it and I am sure given a couple of seasons the coeffienct will soon give Scotland three champions league places and four Uefa cup places to boot, on the strength of the third or fourth place team representing Scotland. wink.gif rolleyes.gif

First, this isn't necessarily the last year of it, no decision has been made and choice lies with UEFA.

Second, the UEFA Cup Qualifying rounds count for next to diddly-squat in Co-efficient. Just because the tabloid press/Sportsound imply it will damage 'the co-efficient' doesn't mean that it's true. Celtic getting pumped out of the Champions League by the third best team in Bratislava did more damage to the co-efficient than Hibs, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Dunfermline, Dundee Utd and Gretna combined.

UEFA should certainly stop awarding three CL places to Slovakia, it’s just not right.

Well if we move up 1 more place as a country we will be given an extra UEFA Cup place so it does make a differnce to the teams competing for the top 6 places.

10th place is our limit IMO.

I couldn’t care less about the coefficient either as it happens.

So, logically, any Celtic fan who is bothered about this coefficient (and QoS) must be wanting Glasgow Rangers to win the UEFA Cup? rolleyes.gif

'mon the Qos anyhow, they beat the team who beat Celtic, so they should do Scotland proud in the UEFA biggrin.gif

Typical old firm supporter, f**k the small clubs & keep making the bigger clubs richer.

Your a joke.

Aberdeen were playing UEFA Cup this season, and we beat them 4-3.

So why couldn't we handle ourselves on the big stage, against certain clubs?

To be fair, that's a load of crap.

Celtic added 1 point to the co-eff that season which, remarkably enough, is the same as two of those teams combined (from the last two years). It was also the same total produced by two of the other teams involved from Scotland that very same season. Dunfermline have had two cracks at the whip in recent seasons and managed to accumulate a grand total of...wait for it... 1 point.

Oh, wait a minute, I see you've put combined in there. Are you meaning Celtic's one point in one season is less than all those teams in the last 6 seasons combined?

Edited to add: I have no qualms over a cup runner-up getting into Europe. I know of at least one team **looks across to the west** that's benefited greatly from this
