Thinking of getting a PS3 soon, basically because i'm getting a full hd tv and want a blue ray player but they are the same price as a PS3 but...

Does a PS3 play normal DVD's and pirate DVD's

Also is it backwards compatible with PS2 games?

They might release another backward compatible model in the near future, so keep an eye open. I know the new 80gb american version plays ps1 and 2 games.
