Would anyone be up for playing 5s most weeks in the city centre? Same as others do in different areas like the folk from falkirk.

I play Monday and Tuesday already, so can't commit to playing, but would be willing to step in at times if numbers are low.

I'd also be up for this, I do work shifts just now though which would rule me out every second week. I would still like a game though, could use with getting fitter.

I might be up for it, but tbh it depends how good you lot are I'm not the best player in the world and I don't want to be embarrased...

Edit - Just got an idea, I play on a sunday night 5s team, anybody want to get a few guys together and give us a midweek friendly?

I'd be up for this on Mondays, but Thursdays are out as I play on a Thursday most weeks.
Glasgow Green (for cheapness) and Goals at Shawlands (for convenience) would be far better venues though.

Okay so we have like 13 people so far, that should be enough for us to arrange a game on one day next week (preferrably Monday for me as I'm working Thursday next week

).
I'll look up Powerleagues and Shawlands and see how much it will cost, available times etc.
dave258
Jan 23 2008, 10:17
Having checked with the places mentioned on this thread, the prices are as follows:
Glasgow Green £34, available any night but is busy due to only having 4 5-a-side pitches at the moment.
Powerleagues (Townhead) £50.95, also available any night but Mondays and Thursdays are their busiest days.
Goals (Shawlands) £52, same as above for availability.
These prices are all for 1 hour, and since we're all unfit bastards 6-a-sides on a 5-a-side pitch is what we should be looking at. So for 12 players, it boils down to:
Glasgow Green: £2.80 each.
Townhead: £4.25 each.
Shawlands: £4.30 each.
Opinions?

In order of preference:
Glasgow Green
Shawlands
Townhead
I assume the crappy surfaces at Glasgow Green are being relaid, so if we could book one of the rubber curmb pitches, they'd be by far the best for a game of 6s. The pitches there are a good bit bigger than Townhead.
Shawlands 2nd choice due to pure selfishness.
Some good pubs there for a post game pint too.
Colin M
Jan 23 2008, 12:01
5 a sides at Shawlands is my preference, couldn't do a Monday regardless of where it is.
I'll play in a couple of months time when I'm a bit fitter if there is still space.

If Garrowhill Clyde can give me a lift, then I am fine to play at any of these venues. If not, Powerleage would be my preference.

I havent played on the Glasgow Green ones, and obviously if they're of the same quality as the other two then I'd prefer there due to being a tight b*****d, but if the other two are better I'll just cough up.

For non drivers Glasgow Green is a bit of a pain in the arse to get to, that's the main problem with it.

If you're phoning to book, make suew it's the modern surfaces that are available. If they are, they're at least as good IMO. The sandy ones are honking though.
Some of the rubber crumb putches at powerleague are already worn, but the newly laid ones are pretty good.
Edit: for anyone coming from Queen St, Townhead's obviously best, but the other two are no more than 5-10 minutes' walk from train stations (Bridgeton and Crossmyloof/Queen's park respectively).

Okay doke. The woman on the phone was a bit of a cow too, so wasn't overly keen on them to start with

The bird from Shawlands sounded no bad though...

Right then, I can try to book one today if yous want, but it would be for Monday (sorry Colin). I'll try Townhead first, purely because the woman at Shawlands said you have to book as soon as it becomes available or the slots are all gone (i.e. 7 days in advance at 10.30am).
