Full Version: Top 3 Game Tunes...

When I mean game tunes I mean original titles, not the licensed numbers you get featured in FIFA and the like.

For me, and it will come as no surprise, they are all C64 titles (heh, and will probably change) but "just now" they would have to be (and in no particular order)...

Lightforce (Hubbard) - link

Green Beret Loader (Galway) - link

Driller (Matt Gray) - link

The links are to the original SID versions that have been recoded into MP3 using a hardware MOS6581. Remixes of all these are, of course, available here: http://remix.kwed.org/

Sad as it sounds, I can listen to SLAYRadio all night.. ohmy.gif ..and sometimes Kohina.

I reserve the right to totally change my mind 5 minutes after posting these! biggrin.gif

And I would have castigated you for it, as they are not original titles.. tongue.gif

On topic of the actual game, rather than the tune, I was always disappointed you never met the size of cargo ship you saw on the intro. sad.gif

I forget Elite 2, but on FFE, I believe you sometimes flew by them on your way in and out of space stations, you never interacted with them though, they were just there.

I had 3 legal boxed copies of the game though (Amiga, PC, and a bundled one)! tongue.gif

The Frontier Box was the best ever, you got a huge instruction manual, a book of stories of life on the Frontier, a tourist guide to the system, and best of all, a big fuckoff map of the universe! Magic! biggrin.gif
Ric
Gents, take your Elite chat and put it in a separate thread. smile.gif Some of us are trying to get some new game tunes here!

Does anyone remember an Amiga game called Heimdall? You were a Viking, and you had a team of magicians, warriors, druids etc. to control. It had a brilliant wee theme.

Found it!

Heimdall

Its only a bit of the intro, fast forward to 4:17. I loved it!

Theres one other game thats come to mind, I can remember the music, but not the game.sad.gif
This is messing with my mind now..

dingdingdingding..duhduhduhduh..dingdingdingding..duhduhduhd
uh....dah dada..dada dada doo dodododododododo...doo doo doo doo.

Ring any bells?

Edited again, because its DUNE! biggrin.gif
Not the crappy strategy game, but the original adventure game for the Amiga...when you walked into the palace, that was the music that started up, magic. I might be able to sleep now.

Finally, the Scummmm bar music in the original Monkey Island was aweseome. Proper piraty music, arr!
Lyn-Marie
Kitty-N

Strike

Capoeira

Hiro

Robo-Z

I am not ashamed.

3. Not a game as such but the Wii Shopping Channel music.

2. Streets of Rage round with the two burds.

1. Streets of Rage round clear music. - I use it as the message tone on my moby. Whenever it goes off in public you know by the looks on people's faces if you've got a Streets of Rage fan in your vicinity.

I used to love the soundtrack to xenon 2 megablast

Absolutely thumbup2.gif

Maybe not the best, or my favourite, but the game music that always pops into my head and stays is Bubble Bobble. I had that music in my head for hours after watching the C64 video the other day laugh.gif

Like BB? Then you'll love this...

http://remix.kwed.org/index.php?search=Bub...bble+%28Live%21

Bubble Bobble done by a school band (obviously they have a geeky music teacher) and it also slips into the game tune for New Zealand Story. It's absolutely ace and if you don't have a smile while listening to it, you have no sense of humour. laugh.gif

I have an excellent sense of humour. However, my works firewall is somewhat lacking in that department sad.gif

You're one of the few good ones then! Few have played it, even fewer loved it like I did. I completed it for the first time on my Amiga Emulator a few years back, and it was a proud moment for me! smile.gif

Edited to add: did you manage to recognise my version of the dune music?

Edited again to add: Dune - as it was on my Amiga

Edited again to add:
Palace music

Try it at home, trust me it's worth it... smile.gif

However see if this can get past your firewall: http://www.filefactory.com/file/702602/

The "name up" tune at the end is superb, I used to use it in my demos all the time. f*cking ace!

Indeed it did smile.gif

You're right, that did bring a smile to my face smile.gif Although, when you said school band I thought you meant some dodgy 4 piece combo with the fat kid that nobody likes on drums. I was expecting a traditional band with the horn laugh.gif
Ric
I don't think it's far off a row of fat kids playing glockenspiels!

renton
Intro music to Command and Conquer red alert (PC)

Anything off of Lemmings

Snow zone in sonic 3D (mega drive)
Mackie The Staggie
  1. Starlight Zone From Sonic 1. First memory of a gaming song that I really liked.
  2. Final Fantasy 7 Battle Song. Wasted youth, I could have been somebody, instead I just played this game, over and over and over and over and.....well you get the idea.
  3. MGS main theme. It was the game that started to change the way gaming was viewed/played, and if it had a shite intro then it wouldn't have happened. (OK maybe exaggerating slightly)
Ric
Going to add in a few game remixes, so while not exactly as "original" as the initial post claimed it had to be, they are still well worth a listen...

(All originally C64 tunes, btw)

First up Ballblazer vs Beastie Boys, a genuine mash up this one. Works surprisingly well!

url: http://remix.kwed.org/download.php/3010/Ro...e%20Boys%29.mp3
mirror: http://www.filefactory.com/file/4c9d0c/

Then a very soulful rendition of the Rambo loader track, but with vocals from Hanna Kappelin) which makes the track even more haunting. Warning this is a very sticky tune. You can be whistling this hours later!

url: http://remix.kwed.org/download.php/3083/Vi...20Larsec%29.mp3
mirror: http://www.filefactory.com/file/661d02/

Finally a cracking remake of the Ghosts and Goblins tunes in a bossanova style. Don't know what that is? Then listen for I am sure you'll love it. The rich bass sound makes this track a real doozy.

Super Mario Bros 2 - First level

Duck Tales (NES) - Moon level and Amazon

Ghouls and Ghosts (SNES) - First level (as I never heard any other levels as I just couldn't get past it)

Zelda 3 (SNES) - So atmospheric

Dr Mario

Tetris

In fact, just about every Mario game had instantly recognisable music of some kind.
