Anyone know any more about these trialists?

I've heard that one is certainly Brent Sancho, plus heard a rumour that Jean lois Valois is on trial, plus at least 1 Nigerian player. (Hopefully a half decent striker!!)

Anyone know where Valois went after Hearts? Googled his name, and it seems he played for Lille, Luton, and Burnley at some point as well as the jambos.

TayFM state that Rae was unimpressed by Sancho last night and so won't be making a bid. Possily can't afford both.

Think Hibs won 3-2 last night.

We'll have him .. Sancho that is.

Here is the Tay FM link...

Brent Sancho will not be offered the chance to return to Dundee. The Trinidad internationalist figured in a closed doors game yesterday but did not impress Alex Rae sufficiently to earn a contract. A young English striker has been offered training facilities for a few days after showing up well while former Hearts winger Jean Louis Valois could be another possible addition to the Dark Blues' squad.

Thanks Mcjimbob + Radford.

Pity about Brent Sancho, but I'm happy to go along with Alex Rae's judgment! I'd be happy with Valois joining - he's experienced enough to suggest to Rae how to make the up-front bit of Dundee work, I hope.

It might still leave us needing a centre-back, depending on what's happening with Milan. I really hope that a) isn't as big a deal as made out in the media, and/or cool.gif that Dundee can get it sorted out, and have Milan play his best for the season. Even if he's moving on, I'll be quite happy if he's showcasing himself for a move for the remaining games!

Valois did play a game as a trialist for us against Stranraer, scoring a "Robson-esque" drive to win the game.

Valois is approaching 35 and has been playing Second Division football in the UAE with Al Khaleej for the past two years, don't think it's a great signing to be honest!

Remember that Lyle, not long ago, was fourth choice striker for Queen of the South (who weren't troubling the top of the First Division table). And look, he's now between the top two clubs in the division, and he hopes he's heading for SPL football.

Rae's judgment has been pretty good so far, and to be honest, it wasn't long ago Dundee were doing quite well out of aging foreign strikers! If this goes ahead, I'm rather hoping we've moved on to affordable aging foreign strikers, though.

was a trial game so surely can be judged by how he performed rather than how old he is!! dry.gif experience could be critical! wink.gif
rae has done well so far finding wee gems so hopefully another unearthed with the young striker also!

Adam Nowland - Preston North End

Saheed Adebayo Akinfenwa - Millwall

Both Players are possibles for the young english striker.

As previously mentioned, Jean Louis Valois was on trial at Clyde a few years ago. Featuring in a cup game Vs. Stranraer.

In that sole cameo appearance he was the difference between the sides. Obvious quality, fantastic goal. Very impressive.

(Given, this was 2-3+ years ago now).

Is that Ade Akinfenwa who was previously at Swansea?? If so, wouldn't have thought we could get him, very good striker.

5th Choice. wink.gif

Though he probably shouldn't have been. I don't think McCall gave him a fair chance up front but maybe he just also needed a change of scenery.

For the record, when Lyle left us he wasn't even getting a place on the bench because McCall prefered to field:

Sean O'Connor (still with us and to be fair probably still picked ahead of Lyle by most managers)
Graham Weir (now Raith Rovers)

and then replace them off the bench with:

Andy Thomson (now Stenhousemuir)
Michael Mullen (now Stranraer)

Ade Akinfenwa was really using his time at Millwall to build up his fitness so he will maybe look at Dundee because we could be playing in the SPL next season.

What's wrong with "that"?

It would be nice to hear some more news on the ins-and-outs at Dens. I'm an impatient soul. I suppose I should still be elated at the early McDonald contract extension, but it would be nice to hear soon that we've consolidated or added to our defence, and that we've got a new striker. Fingers crossed! Though I'm glad that Rae has got more patience than I have!
AlanPartridge
Heard on the radio at lunchtime Valois could be in the squad tomorrow as he is unattached at the moment, meaning he could play as a trialist.

Most of us fans are the same jacko,I cant see anyone leaving (apart hopefully from lyle asap) but we do need a striker and would be good if we were able to sign McKeown now instead of the summer but thats up to clyde.I,m sure rae knows what we need and has probably already tried a few without success but I,d rather wait than sign someone just to get numbers in,in my opinion if we get the right striker we win the league.

Well that's Akinfenwa off the list then.
