McLauchlan poised for Queens move

Queen of the South have signed Stranraer defender Gerry McLauchlan on a pre-contract agreement.

The 18-year-old, who began his career with Hamilton Academical, will join the First Division club in June.

McLauchlan joined Stranraer last summer and has made 21 appearances for the side sitting third in Division Three.

I honestly don't know much about him.

The Queens web site says "he scores his fair quota of goals" well if by his fair quota they mean none they are right, think he is yet to break his scoring duck.
He's a good lad who I doubt will cause the management at Queens any grief, has been consistant throughout the season.

Looked good in the pre season tournament at Annan and Queens have had him watched several times and according to a few Stranraer fans has been their best player.I imagine we have signed him with a view to playing for the proposed under 19 team for next season if it goes ahead.

Please tell me that is a wind up aimed at the Cleyholers. Exactly the sort of youthful defensive signing we need for our first team squad .

There is no chance that Gerry has joined QOS to play in your U19 team, that's the reason why he left Accies. Billy Reid wanted to keep him as he thought he was a good prospect and in his only first team start (which came in a midweek 1-1 draw at QOS) he played really well. However McLachlan was getting itchy feet about his lack of first team opportunities and with the solid Mark McLaughlin and David Elebert ahead of him as well as Chris Swailes it looked like opportunities would be limited, so he asked to be released and Accies didn't stand in his way so he could get first team football at Stranraer.

He hasn't left Accies because he wanted to play in the first team only to eventually end up in the U19s at QOS. Good signing though and I imagine he will go to be a regular performer for you guys.

His dad, also Gerry McLauchlan, is quite a well known ex junior having played for years with Petershill and Pollok.

Good young player. Strong in the air and in the tackle. I was disappointed when he left Accies as i thought he was a good prospect.

There's no way he has been signed to play u19 football. Chisholm has made no secret of the fact he's not been happy with our defending all season, albeit it's been much better lately. I've no doubt it's with a view to addressing that point.

I agree.

Our defending this season has been terrible, which in all honesty has cost us a lot of points. He is obviously being signed as a first team player, where by all reports on this forum, will probably be pushing for a startnig 11 spot.

Mmmm another highly rated defender from Stran-rear? We've just managed to get rid of the other duds we signed!

Hopefully he'll be a good signing, JT will take him under his wing and teach him a thing or two.

Chris Carr. It all started so promisingly for him too. One shockingly awful showing at Perth and it all fell apart and never returned. Now at Newcastle Blue Star starring alongside Liam Atkin and indeed Karl Jones who played pre-season for us at Annan. Derek Townsley started the season there too. Quite the little collection of ex-Queens centre halves!
