Any of the defensive players really, Mark.

McKeown is a good "stopper" whilst McGregor has a bit more class about his play but is a solid defender as well. Hutton is a decent 'keeper and for all the criticism he gets, Dougie Imrie is dangerous as well.

Apt that Kevin Bradley is playing in ghostly white... cue him scoring!

The defence looks great, they just seem a bit toothless up front, Arbuckle looks half decent though.

Is the keeper subject to any transfer rumours, he looks superb.

Arbuckle takes a lot of abuse but IMO is the only thing they have resembling a striker. The guys like Div McGowan and Bradley that Hendry plays up front with him and poor.

Hutton has just signed a new contract, which was maybe a bit surprising as he could probably earn more money at another club in this league, if not play at a higher level.

Clyde gave it a decent go tonight but they were always gonna need to keep a clean sheet to win the game. Dundee United don't look anything special on that performance though.

They are not very special. But they have Robson. He makes a huge difference. Without him they would be grinding it out with the rest of the dross.

Leveins teams are hard on the eye. He makes Gus McPherson look like an advocate of all out attacking play. Levein seems to get away with it even though his teams are fucking dire to watch normally.

Dundee United have a few players that can change a game, even if they are playing poor. St Mirren don't. That's probably why

I thought the game was a pretty poor advert for Scottish football. The Arabs had a wee bit more class about them in a couple of players, especially Robson but Clyde were really toothless. The were quite well organised at the back but really did'nt carry any threat up front at all. I thought their best players were the two centrebacks and Masterton. I so pleased that Imrie turned us down because he was mince in that game as he has been when he has played us.

They badly need a striker and another creative midfielder.

I did'nt think Dundee Utd were that much better but they never really looked troubled at all at the back and once they scored it was all over. They did just enough.

That`s pretty much what I was saying. Take Robson out their team and they won`t win nearly as many games.

Other than the obvious "contributor" its refreshing to read a sensible thread on Clyde.
The observations are spot on and are the basis of most of the Clyde supporters' frustrations this season ie sound defence, lacking in midfield and unacceptably poor up front. Unfortunately our manager has not been able to use his (past ) contacts in the game to get this problem fixed.

Our goalie would not be at this level if he was a bit taller as he certainly has the ability and character to progress in the game. Dougie imrie is full of energy , endeavour but not as skilful as many Division 1 players. Needs time as I recall Ian Harty was hopeless when he arrived from Stranraer, his first touch was like an elephant's but he improved dramatically with us and then went on to better things rolleyes.gif

Back to our shortcomings, it seems to show what happens when someone leaves the daily contact and tries to come back into this game. Expect Kevin Keegan at Newcastle may have a similar problem (though certainly not money).
It would have been good to play St Mirren but maybe they'll get chance to repeat the 1-0 victory over Utd courtesy of an ex-Clyde player.

At least we pocketed some cash, which is best many of the clubs can expect in this competition.

Can any Clyde fans give me an insight into Craig Mckeown? I was just wondering what he is like as a defender.

Cheers for the reply.

Yeah, just that I hadn't heard too much about him before he signed a pre contract agreement with us.

We shall wait and see how he is for Dundee.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Hard lines against Dundee United btw.

Yeah, I read that somewhere.

Very positive remarks about this person. By all accounts I heard that he had a good game against Dundee United in the Cup last night?

I do apologise that my contribution to this thread is about as good as Mr. Roberts, but i'm sorry.. I have to.

Think its a strange one that a few non Clyde supporters think Arbuckle is decent enough. I honestly believe if we could get a guy that can win a header Arbuckle would prosper.

Seriously? I thought Arbuckle had a good game last night although I think that once again he showed that having a goalscorer alongside him would make a huge difference. He certainly played much better than Imrie and Bradley.

You now have the best striker in the 2nd div. kicking his heels at Central Park - get the chequebook out and save yourselves from the drop.

I would hope that something will be worked out, especially as we'll presumably have to pay compensation in the summer anyway.

I hope that if we did try to sign him now that we'd include Sean McKenna on loan as part of any deal. Decent prospect but badly needs games at senior level.
Aberdeen Cowden
In a situation like this the pre-contract deals are bad for the player and both clubs concerned. We are going to lose Pat - we'll just have to get on with it. At least the money will allow us to bring someone else in - good luck to Clyde.

He'll be the best striker in the Second Division again next year. wink.gif

Arbuckle was OK last night, but is normally a bit hopeless.

When confident, he will bring goals.

I'm not saying he was crap last night. I thought he done alright. I think he had 2 chances and if it weren't for a good save, and the fact that the second one was him with 3 United players (if i remember correctly) and a very difficult angle, then he could have bagged one.

Right now he's playing absolutely terrible. Good goal against Thistle, so that wouldn't have hurt his confidence. But i think if he goes on a little run ( even 2 games with a goal in each ) then he could be a good player for us.

I think he just lacks confidence. Although to be fair, as everyone else said, if we had 2 strikers then who knows what he could do.

He plays on confidence as we found out from his little run last season, and right now the whole squad is lacking it, because they are more familiar with secretary and people in the club shop than they are with the manager, and lets face it, they're not exactly going to keep morale high are they?
Sir Kevin Of Kilsyth
Im not a fan of Arbuckle. I dont think his workrates the best although he did do quite well last night. Ad gladly trade him to cowdenbeath for Clarke right now. As for the other players I do think that Hutton,McKeown and McGregor will be in the SPL before long.

Problem is, he has been lacking confidence for the last three seasons. It's about time he got a grip of himself and stopped looking for other people to boost his self esteem. If he is unable to motivate himself then he should not be playing professional football.

Lacking confidence = weak minded. David Hutton had a shaky couple of games after his Perth howler but has returned to the keeper we know he his.
