I need some advice regarding these spam emails that sometimes come through to my hotmail account. this may sound a bit strange but i received an email today from an email address with a .ru address it was a typical spam email where there are a list of others who received the same one. it was a link to a porn site. the strange thing is the subect line had the name of my company and one of my competitiors in the town as if it was sent via us.obviously my concern is that if i received it my customers and potential customers will also receive it which wont be great for business.

is there any way i can trace the source of this or who sent it out. i run an estate agents and have registered my email for updates with all the other local agents so i would be part of their email lists. obviously i am concerned that someone is stitching me up, although might just be being paranoid but seems to coincidental.

any advice would be appreciated i dont really know how all of this works.

cheers

Go here and put in the domain from the email address... for example if I had an email address linked to this website it'd look like "jay_7@pieandbovril.com" where the "pieandbovril" bit is the domain. Get the suffix right, so for example on the scroll bars for the suffix change .com to .ru

thanks for that. the web address from the email is www.ksho.ru. it appears to be a Russian clothing website although my Russian isnt up to much. is it possible for someone to use a domain name in that way i.e. sending spam emails from ******@pieandbovril.com when they have nothing to do with the website. i cant imagine the email actually originates from this domain especially as it mentions my business and the one across the road.

I'm not sure to be honest... there probably is a way to spoof a domain address like that but as far as I am aware, whoever owns/runs the website has to assign an address to you for your own use. Unless of course the email account in question has been hacked.
