I've just had to buy a new hard drive for my PC and load a new copy of windows. Everything is working fine except my PC won't look at my sound card. It's a Realtek one that seems to me built onto the motherboard.
When I go into Device Manager there is one "unknown" device, which I'm assuming is the sound card. I've been onto the HP, Microsoft and REaltek sites to try and find a solution. I've downloaded the drivers, but can't install them.
I've also tried going into the BIOS to check the Onboard Audio settings and tried all options (Auto, Enabled, Disabled) but again, no joy.
It's driving me up the wall. Anybody with more knowledge than me (which won't be hard) got any suggestions?
You're quite correct, Realtek sound is built into the motherboard. Find out the manufacturer and model number of the motherboard you are using, go to the manufacturers page and download the *.exe file for sound.

This might be a daft question, but how do I do that?
Who's the manufacturer of the computer?

I got that driver from the HP site earlier, but it wouldn't install. I managed to get a hold of the UAA High def Bus Driver and instlled that then tried that HP driver again and it works!
Thanks for the help jay!
