The next organised game is Macedonia in September!
I think there is a squad get-together in February, and there is an available international date in March, which I assume will be too late to organise a game. I think the next available international dates would be in June, so I'm guessing we'll have a friendly then because the new boss will probably want to have a match before competitive fixtures start.

Friendly dates before Macedonia match:
1st midweek in February
4th midweek in March
end of May/start of June (i.e. between Scottish Cup and Euro 2008)
3rd midweek in August
so I'd anticipate having 1 or 2 friendly games (say March and May) for the new man to utilise.

argentina in march has been confirmed by argentina if not scotland. february will be a squad get together for the new coach, also rumoured for an england friendly at the end of the season but this seems to have gone quiet again

So, do you think the SFA board sat down and said - "look, we'll be getting a new manager in, lets give him an easy first game". Then they said "actually nah, lets give him Argentina".

I actually think that is a great game to start off with. 1) There will be absolutely no pressure on him to get a result. Argentina will be expected to take 3-4 goals off us. He can have a look at players against top quality opposition and see if they have it. If it was someone like the Faroes, then he isn't going to learn anything, and a bad friendly result will be disasterous.
I agree with the above, good game to start with. Garunteed full house at hampden, a great atmosphere and no pressure on him or the players.
If it goes ahead.
Then we will be playing England at Wemburlee End of May, begining of June. Cappello will go for it cause he's a cocky bastert and thinks it'll get the press right behind him, we however will have other plans
It would appear the game against the Argies will not be happening. They`ve arranged a friendly against Uruguay? in march

i dont think Capello will want it. what does he, or England, gain from playing us? he'll be more concerned with playing opposition similar to what they have in their world cup group.
I'd use the same arguement to say that it wouldn't do Scotland any good to play them either.

England can get a full house against most sides and all of their games are on TV anyway. actually thinking about it this game would probably be covered by a TV deal thats already in place so in itself it wouldn't be an extra money spinner TV-wise. and the FA making money isn't Capello's concern. he's purely a football pragmatist. he'll want whatever suits him best to get towards his objective which is getting England to South Africa in June 2010. anything that doesn' help with that aim won't be countenanced.

I can see us getting an offer from a team that have qualified for Euro 2008 as a decent warm up game for them. Just as long as it's better than that damn Switzerland friendly!

I've always fancied a friendly in the US of A. The Americans love us, and in some 'bars' they give free drinks to people wearing kilts.

Played them 18 months ago, 0-0 draw IIRC. Scott Brown made his Scotland debut. Was at Hampen Park of course.

1-1. Andy Webster scored for us with a header. Brown had an absolute screamer correctly ruled out for offside with minutes to go.

I mind watching that match, twas indeed a quality finish by Brown, but I think the replays eventually showed him to be marginally offside.
