My 360 can't read any disc.
What could the problem be? Will I be able to get it fixed for free?

I'm no specialist on consoles but it is apparently a hardware problem. How long ago did you get it? Provided you've kept it in reasonable order, I think it would be pretty mean if they didn't offer you some kind of compensation. Whether that's a new console or what, I don't know. These machines seem to be quite shoddily constructed do they not?

I got the red lights in july and was then sent a new console (refurb). Now it's not reading any discs.
My little brother got a xbox at christmas there. Do you think i could put my console in his box and take it back to HMV and would be giving a new console?

You are out of warranty Kyle, the extra warranty only covers the 3 lights, does it read anything else?

The swop box method is an option open, obviously its illegal but you take your chances.

Well I certainly think the build quality is dubious, why not just take the console to them and say, "Haw! This is broke - again!" As I said, I think it would be a bit poor if they didn't compensate you for this hardware flaw in some way, shape or form.

Because they dont give a hoot about a single guy with a broken console out of warranty, thats why.

I will give them a phone later and see what they say. If there not going to repair for free then i will send my mum into HMV with the fucked xbox .

If that's the case then as Mark says, it's not really going to get off the ground. I suppose if it's a problem with the read/write head there's probably scope to have that problem fixed by an independent company etc. or what have you, for a fee.

If it was in warranty though, he wouldnt be worried about getting it replaced.

Personally I thought he was worried because this is the second time a problem has arose, and perhaps as they say they'll think he's 'at it'.

My dad has just said he will pay to get it fixed but i told him nicely to f**k off. I'm not getting a shitty refurb console fixed as it will just keep getting problems.

Is your brothers 360 one with HDMI kyle? If it is that might pose problems with the switch, if someone in the store knows their stuff, your mum could end up in trouble (probably best not to tell her you are sending her on an illegal mission).

It's the same as mine. Only difference is that it's the console which 'apparently' doesn't have any problems.

I have thought this morning about getting a ps3 but at the weekend i played it at my pals and thought it was shit.

Its exactly the same as the 360 effectively.

I played pro evo 08 and it was laggy every game we played.

You need to get him to install to the hard disk to sort that problem out on the ps3.

Prob a silly question but do you still need to put the disc in when playing games from the hard drive on the PS3?

It depends, on everything you buy on disk, then yeh, most just install a small file to speed up loading. Warhawk is a retail game you can download in full off the store but you can also buy it as a disk, so you technically can with some, i dunno if you actually can though.

Theres an option somewhere to install some files to hard disk, i dont have it but i know it fixed the problem for others on another forum.

My dad says there is somewhere down in england that will fix it and it will only take 7 days.

How much do they charge? If it's just the dvd drive then it should be pretty cheap and should only take around half an hour tops to replace!

I'm really pissed off. I think i will give microsoft a try and get put onto a supervisor and complain to them.

I seen that earlier today but i don't feel comfortable opening it up and trying to put a new lens in. Would be much better if microsoft (c**ts) just gave me a new 360.

Another thing, I just got the refurb console in july/august. Do you not get another year warrenty with it?

Yeah it has the new CPU and a HDMI port (It's exactly the same as the elite model, apart from the colour obviously)

I've seen people selling just the new consoles fairly cheap, no power supply, tv lead or joypad.

Most on buy it now on Ebay just now are refurbs, I wouldn't touch them.........

Before Xmas they had loads of them brand new (New ones as they had the HDMI port) for sale

It doesn't matter if it's buy it now or an auction but I would like it to be brand new.

The good thing about the new xbox 360 with HDMI is that it has a 1% failure rate and the ps3 has a 3% failure rate.

Dont buy one off ebay, you dont know what you are getting.

You could have got one someone bought to mod but cant have done it etc. Hassle changing under warranty etc etc.
