The bottom line is Accies got themselves well in front of St J in terms of points and then got a goal in front. St J were always going to come at us in the second half and they did. We limited them to one decent chance thro superb defending and we looked more like scoring. It was game we had to win, it was a game St J had to win and that is why i think we done well to limit a good team to very few chances.

Halliwell made a meal of it the way the guy did when he ran into Mensing, it happens and it gave St J something to get excited about.
Accie1
Not a great performance from Accies but we scored and they didn't so points to us. Thought the Saints number 6 and 7 (Quinn and McDonald?) looked the best players in their team by far. Our defence showed how good it can be when Marko and Davie play together. Now we just need Parratt back. A good day at the offfice all in all.

oh well rolleyes.gif here goes.....saintees were all over us for the entire ninety minutes and accies had the occasional breakaway that led to a goal in the first half, then at 4.45pm the referee set my alarm off and off home a toddled to bed for another wonderful nap zzzzzzz.

So where are Savo and Sam these days?

It's funny, you know. You slag me when I post after a game, and yet when I don't have time to do so...

I think the most worrying part from our perspective is that we played very well at times yesterday, playing Accies off of the park in the first half, yet Accies created the most clear cut chances and won the game without playing as well as they probably can. It's probably also the most disappointing, in my opinion.

Alan Main should be dropped, but unfortunately I don't think McInnes has the balls to do it.

It's funny that you make out like Hamilton finished our season last year. I don't think you'll find too many Saints fans who felt there was anything salvagable in terms of the title before the game yesterday either. In your dreams, I suppose. laugh.gif

Unlike St.Mirren fans, we are quite capable of admitting our own failures in life. We don't blame them on other players and teams. laugh.gif

The league was over before yesterday.

We beat you 4-1, you beat us 1-0. I know which is more deserving of gloating! It was enjoyable, too!

Enjoy it. I had a great time last year despite what happened on the last day of the season. There's nothing better than watching your team go out all guns blazing and fighting for success.

I'm a neutral and have been lucky enough to see both Hamilton v St Johnstone games this season.

The 4-1 game in September was, for me, the Saints firing a mission statement to say they were planning on another serious assault on the Division One title after tearing the Accies to shreds, particularly in the second half. The fact that Accies crumbled in the second half came as no surprise.

As for Saturday's game, I felt it was entertaining game and St Johnstone on reflection should have got something from it. They had more of the chances certainly but as a spectacle, the game seemed quite even. The goal should have been dealt with better, particularly by Alan Main, but the Saints were unlucky at times, especially with Bryn Halliwell in decent form.

I wouldn't rule out another Saints late surge, but realistically any more dropped points over Christmas and they are finished.

I'm intrigued by your neutral stance Craigy. (Excellent choice of name i might add on your parents part wink.gif )

What is the mindset of someone, who has no particular affiliation with either club, parting with their hard-earned cash to watch drivel, that rest of us have pretty much resigned ourselves to, through choice?!?!

I just love my football and I've seen a variety of games at all levels this season, from the juniors to the SPL and even the internationals, which is why I like to think I can offer an unbalanced and fair opinion, whether it's right or wrong.

Oops sorry! tongue.gif

I've seen a few St Johnstone games this season and I think the team still has a lot to offer in terms of the SPL, but having seen them against Morton last week, they need to learn how to finish teams off. I thought big Deuchar made a big difference and since he went Andy Jackson perhaps isn't as effective as he was.

Put it this way, it's a bad sign when the Saints top scorer is the penalty taker, who has scored every one of his goals from the spot biggrin.gif

In one sense you are of course right but he has scored nine penalties so if he ends the season with eighteen of them, I could live with the top scorer having just seventeen goals.

Its a totally unsettled period that McInnes is working in just now. We have had players loans expiring and guys coming back from long term injury.

He'll find a formation that suits him and hopefully a settled team and take it from there. As far as i'm concerned the rest of the season is damage limitation and then see what happens from there. We have no right to expect to challenge EVERY year. It takes hard work and a bit of luck.

Fair enough, I'd take it as well, but it must worry you that no-one is there to finish it when the chances come?

As i said i honestly think Savo is the best striker in the league. When he is running 100% he will stick away chances better than anyone in the division. The problem is keeping him 100%.

I personally think St Johnstone can be the sort of team that took Gretna to the last kick of the ball last season, but being draw specialists won't help. Christmas is a key time for the Saints.

I wouldn't like to see the league go to a two-horse race this early in the season, but Saints, and others, must buck up their ideas

Biggest worry personally is that we are gifting teams their points. Morton didn't need to work hard for either of their goals and obviously Alan Main should have done better yesterday with McArthur's strike. Individual errors cost us for a spell last season and I don't want to see that creeping in again.

Up front I think Milne will weigh in with his usual sort of return if he stays fit but obviously no one knows if Jackson is going to establish himself as a regular scorer and MacDonald's overall game has developed but that's come at the cost of his goalscoring contribution. Deuchar would obviously be the answer if he could continue from where he left off with his 10 goals in his 14 games. If we can't get him back, I'd say we do possibly need another striker in that mould as neither Stewart of Daal look like cutting it, albeit they've not had much of a chance.

We miss Hardie's goals from the midfield as well.

I hate Saints, i was gearing myslef up for another season of excitmenet!

Hamilton are a very cynical and professional team who went out to do a job and to be fair to them did it very well.

Saints were pretty bad on Saturday and although they played quite well in spells in terms of passing posession football there was a huge gap between midfield and strikers all day.

One thing that was a bit strange was that our centre backs constantly had the ball with 30 yards of wide open space to run into. They refused to do this however and walked forward ten yards and constantly played a long high diagonal ball to Peaso, one of the smallest players on the pitch who was being marked by Mensing for the whole first half.

Main has always been a big headed p***k of a man. I have always said to myslef that i can't hate him because he was of huge importance in the days of europe and high spl finishes. It is time to stop pretending. I HATE ALAN MAIN. He is a good shot stopper buit so is Kevin Cuthbert. Cuthbert can also kick the ball and now i feel has superior positioning and is far less likely to make mistakes.
