Not quite sure how Alloa managed to escape with a point today.

Other than a good effort from Scott Agnew which Nelson tipped over the bar, Alloa rarely threatened and City controlled much of the game, especially in the second half when they laid seige on the Alloa goal.

Darren Gribben was impressive again and he came close with two fantastic free kicks in the first half. One of them curled round the wall and hit the post while the other was heading for the top corner before Jellema pulled off a great save.

Second half we piled on the pressure but much of the time we lacked the final ball. Gribben came so close to scoring late on when his well struck shot looked to be heading for the far corner but Jellema made a fantastic one handed save. Minutes later Chris Geddes had the ball in the net but he was penalized for handball.

Byers also came close when his audacious chip nearly went over Jellema while Stuart Callaghan slid a shot inches past the post.

White, Byers and Gribben were all excellent. Johnston meanwhile was just an utter waste of space.

Disappointed not to take all three points, we have to start turning performances into points before it's too late.

The performances are coming though, and at least we're not losing games like these. Thought Gribben was fantastic, as was White. Amazing tackle in the second half when the Alloa striker was clean through.

Johnston looked off the pace a bit.

Things are looking good. Berwick are looking well off the pace and QP's early form has deserted them at a time when we look like we might start doing something. smile.gif

Thought Gribben had a good game today but now his record is 2 in four. Johnstone isn't scoring and Geddes doesn't look like the solution. Does anyone know what happnened to the lad Calum Smith. Thought him next to the dugout today..is he injured. Always thought he looked like a good player and think he and Gribben would strike up a good partnership. MJ is just now cutting it for me...

Have to laugh at the 'Alloa were lucky to scrape a point' comment in the first post!! You can't be serious?!

We should have been ahead at the break, classic game of 2 halves but we also created a few chances in the 2nd half, one which had goal written all over it if it hadn't been for a great tackle from your defender.

Jellema in goal was immence again and a point is a decent result. That's 1 goal conceded in last 4 games and 7 games unbeaten.

Bring on Ayr!

Thought the first half was fairly even - Alloa took a great save from Nelly and Gribben hit the post from a free kick. Not much else to report about the first 45.

Second half City piled forward and had sooooooooo many chances to pick up the 3 points but couldn't quite get the ball in the net. Alloa were always dangerous on the break (and breaks were all they had in the second half).

Left disappointed to not take all 3 points but we must score when we're on top. That seems to be story of the season. MJ was hailed as a great goalscorer, but has failed to show that in 12 games now. It's beginning to look like selling Iain Russell was a short-term fix but led to a long-term drought.

We're not bad enough to be second bottom.

This does not have any relevance to Ayr United, so we don't want to see any of Monster's stupid rantings on this post.

Pretty poor game of football but still a number of chances at both ends. We lacked the spark we've had in recent weeks and despite playing some nice enough football in the first half the final ball wasnt there. Couple of good set piece efforts by Brechin before the break.
Second half we were disjointed and Brechin looked the stronger team and had a few good shots on goal. Ray Jellema made some really great saves to keep them out, two crackers near the end in particular. Not really accurate to say we scraped a point though because Nelson also made a tremendous stop from Wilson early on and then at the start of the second half to keep Andrew out. We also had two close things with Nelson beaten and the aforementioned tackle by Brechin's number 5 when Fairbairn was clean through and about to shoot, as good a tackle as you will see at any level of football.

Overall Alloa's poorest showing for a few weeks and a number of sides in this league would have beaten us on that display so we'll take the point and hopefully get back on form next week.

As games go, that was fairly nondescript.

I'd agree with that analysis. Spot on.

My comments on the game probably aren't going to be too accurate as I spent the entire match with my Dad's mobile pinned to my ear (the battery on mine had given up on the way up the road) trying to get tickets for the Italy game. We eventually got them yesterday at about 3, after about 13 hours of solid phoning.

Anyway, our worst performance for weeks. We played OK in the first half and probably had the better of the game in that time but apart from one excellent effort from Dougie Wilson we didn't really create that much. Second half we were pinned back and to be honest were pretty lucky to escape with a point, Jellema making some excellent saves.

I'll happily take the point and now it's looking ahead to the Ayr game where we can hopefully get back to playing the way we have been prior to Saturday.

Was that guy Hodge playing for the Wasps - is he any relation to the famous Alex and Adam Hodge?

Not much else to add to the game that hasnt already been said. Both teams had chances and a draw was about right.

I know our club has a problem at times with themas well, but what is it with the small group of little b*strds at the back of the stand at Brechin? On our last visit there, they were all thrown out for throwing waterbombs laugh.gif at a couple of our supporters, then this time round they were spitting on a couple of younger Alloa fans.

Have to admit they were funny for a while in a "point and laugh" kind of way. They plagiarised the full Rangers song book (which included the hilarious line up "we're up to our knees in Forfar boys" laugh.gif ) then abused Alloa players by referring to them as "Weegies" laugh.gif

And for the second visit in a row the fanny steward was reluctant to put them out for spitting until about 20 people had a go at him.
