Full Version: Arbroath V Albion Rovers
......................... was the game so late in finishing?
It wasn't! I heard on the radio that no final score was in and latest was 1-0, this was when we were entering Dundee on the way home! And no we hadn't left early.
Soon the media won't bothering giving lower league results so just be grateful they still go through the motions.
Rovers put up a good display at Gayfield, had most territorial possession though few clearcut chances. Pinned us back most of the game. On the other hand we blew a number of clearcut openings though principal sinner Bryan Scott, who had a great game, still got the winner.
Arbroath looked a lot better after the substitutions late in the game. Albion must be disappointed not to get at least a point - they did well at Gayfield last year too.
Credit to the smallish group of AR fans who gave voice, especially right at the end when most would have been disheartened.
Smaller home crowd at Gayfield of late reflecting a run of poor home performances. Still that's about 5 unbeaten

Can't decide if he actually had a good game. Yes he scored the one and only goal, but the amount of chances he keeps feckin up is beginning to piss me off! Should have had AT LEAST a hat-trick today, if not 4 or 5.
Classic Bryan Scott, takes a fairly hard chance, then misses 3 or 4 much easier ones.

Yup, does well to control the ball, beat his man and fire home right into the corner with his left foot from 20 yards, then f**k's up 3 one on one's.
Thing is, you can see every game that he's learning from Tosher. He's learnt how to make those runs from Tosher, and this time 6 months ago he'd have been offside or not even making them, so gotta give credit to him for actually getting into the positions.
If Bryan's finishing improves this season he'll be one hell of an asset for us.

Few other strikers in this league, and none of ours, have his pace and strength which is why he gets himself into scoring positions again and again. And he works hard up front to create chances. He is now coming onto a game offering a real outlet up front.
Think we're probably going to have to get used to the fact that Scott's likely to be endlessly frustrating for us. As others have said, he has got an uncanny knack of squandering the easier chances then scoring those that look far more difficult, with the last two games being cases in point. But, with apologies for the dreadful cliche, he is regularly getting into goalscoring positions and doesn't appear to let the missed chances effect him. He's already scored a fairly impressive amount this season it's just that it should be far more.
As for the game, Rovers may feel slightly aggrieved not to get a point particularly after the first half performance (think our goal came from our only proper attempt on target?), but we did make the clearer chances in the 2nd half and probably should have wrapped things up before FT. Thought the changes we made in the second half worked pretty well, with Watson in particular making a difference.
It was all a wee bit dour again though.

A wins a win but just like the Forfar game (and a macdonalds) I was left feeling fairly unsatisfied.
For the second week in a row Flyer looked the best player in maroon whilst Hegarty I thought had a fairly poor game.
I thought Watson was excellent when he came on and would make my starting line up every week.

He took the goal brilliantly, he actually managed to beat the defender to get the shot away. Twice prior to the goal he was easily tackled in similar situations. We played a little more direct with the wind in the second half and this suits Scott's pace, he's now making great runs as opposed to being caught offside the majority of the time. Yes the end product is lacking a little and im not sure if he'll ever have the killer instinct but there will be games where things will go his way and he'll rattle in a good few.

Not trying to have a dig at Scott or anything, coz he is trying his best and playing well... Just hope that, as well as some games going his way and him finding the net a few times in a game, there aint too many games where his constant missing actually costs us more severely...

the media also buggered up our attendance figure. i noticed in the paper it claimed there was only 100 odd at the game when it was really 600 odd
