Missed todays game due to work.

Yet another week without a win. Fair enough we've only lost 2 in 7 league games but we've yet to win and quite frankly that isn't good enough.

Airdrie went down to 10 men just before half time yet we somehow went 2-0 behind before pulling a goal back from a penalty.

We've got a really tricky period coming up where we play Raith, Ross County and Ayr in the next four games, we've got to get results from those, otherwise we'll fall even further behind.
CALDERON
Tricky period? Raith?

Pah!

neither team looked dangerous in the first 45 but the ref gave a straight red which was fairly harsh for a single - footed tackle from behind. Russel was sent off though and holmes made some diference up front. Brechin didn't really look dangerous at all and the penalty could be classed as a very light one.

Any idea of who scored the penalty?

Sky Sports and BBC think it was David Murie while SportBox say Chris Geddes.

No idea m8 . It could have been a no.10 with black hair?

Sounds like Geddes although he wouldn't have been No. 10 as he came on as a sub.

Didn't think he would take a penalty either.

Think it was geddes that scored the pen, russell was daft he had a wild lunge from behind and in this day and age its a straight red dont know what the f**k he was thinking. Actually likely helped us as Brechin became a bit more adventurous due to being a man up and left a bit more space in behind their defence. Good to get a win especially with Raith losing.

One final note on the Ref absolutely terrible, some of his decisions were bizzare and he was just dying to give the penalty even tho the brechin player flung himself to the ground....Oh and Martin Johnson looks a right player!!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Which one was that ?? Big lanky bald guy ? If so then laugh.gif laugh.gif

Brechin were no different than any other time I have seen them in recent years, relatively solid at the back, but any pace or trickery and they are f**ked, as was shown at both goals.

Not really sure what Brechin's tactics were after the sending off, and I'm not totally sure the players knew either.

We are far too slow in our build up, we will be on the counter attack and then for some reason turn back and allow the other team to get back, we have plenty of ability, we just need to be a lot sharper in the final third.

Sending off was harsh, but not unexpected with that ref, one of those refs who thinks the whole game is about him and not the players. Incredibly inconsistant, there were plenty of challenges worse than Russell's in the game, but they didn't even merit a booking according to the ref. He couldn't wait to send Russell off, or give the penalty, or pull the play back for a foul when our players were in on goal. I wouldn't have been surprised if that ref had had Brechin on his coupon, put it that way rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

We are a joke this season. Playing with one up front.. The least mobile of our front players. Can't even beat 10 men...Okay we need to tighten up at the back but young Chris Hughes should play and where was Callum Smith today. He didn't even make the bench...seems a strange one thought he looked like a good player.

Radio Scotland reported that the final score was 3-1 to Airdrie.

What was the reason fro the delay in the match ?

Couldn't make it today as I'm skint.

I was actually at the game!

The sending off was justified - although surprising. Russell made a bad tackle on Darren Smith from behind and caught him on the calf. It looks a serious injury, and I always believe that if a player is so injured in a bad tackle that he can't continue, the guy making the tackle deserves a red card. It's not the first time Russell has had an "incident" with a City player. When he was with St Mirren, he made a late tackle on our keeper ......... studs and everything .......... keeper was out for weeks and Russell only got a yellow card.

Airdrie took their 2 goals well. The usual from the City defence - they backed off all attackers giving room for the strike.

As for the penalty - it was at our end. Charlie King was beating defenders at the edge of the box and was just about to hit for goal when he had his legs chopped. It looked a definite penalty, but we've had some like that denied before. Chris Geddes (who came on as a sub) sent the keeper the wrong way for a good strike. Airdrie hung on till the end despite a few misses by City (Johnston in particular!)

Don't know why there was confusion with the scores - it's not as if the goals were close together. Only thing was the 5 or so minutes of extra time, due to Airdrie's persistent time wasting tactics, which were always pointed out by the ref.

From where i saw it, Russells challenge merited a straight red. 2 foot tackle from behind, and the brechin player never made the second half. i agree with the comment that the ref thought the whole game was about him - Loverings yellow card, for example

The first half was dire from both teams, in my view definetly one of our worst performances of the season we didn't look at the races at all. Only chance of note I can remember from either side the first period was when Prunty turned his man inside the box and had a shot that looked destined for the net hooked off the line.

At first I thought Russell's sending off was harsh but the more I think about it he probably did deserve to walk. It wasn't two footed but he went in on the guy from behind with studs up and ended the player's involvement in the game, no intention of getting the ball.

So leading into the second half I was bricking it to be honest and I was pleasently surprised by a very strong and fighting second half performance from us. Homer pushed up front beside Prunty and had an excellent second half where he was involved in both the goals and created some nice chances for himself. Prunty and Waddell both took their goals very well and I was pleased with the way the team performed.

I thought the penalty was harsh but then from where I was it was difficult to see, it looked to me like the guy went down very easily with little contact but as I say I wasn't sure. Based on the performance we gave though with ten men I felt we deserved the win.

Ref was a joke but then that starts to surprise me less and less every week, I'm not going to defend our timewasting as teams do it to us every week so it was about time we gave some back.

Standout performances for me were James Sharp (yes folks, he was very commanding, solid and hardly put a foot wrong all game!), Bryan Prunty, Graeme Holmes and Ricky Waddell. Everyone else done well but I thought Kev McD had his 3rd bad game this week, after a great start to the season he is slipping a bit, hopefully he can pick himself up and get back to a good standard!

A mediocre first half with prunty's shot the highlight, Russell's out of charachter loss of the head the lowlight no debate Red Card.

In a sick kind of way this helped us as has been said before teams sit with ten men behind the ball but Brechin threw on an extra wide man to help out (I think he was trying to go 4-3-3 when they had possesion then revert back to 4-5-1 when not) this created a bit of space in the middle and allowed Homer to push up and support Prunty and was absolutely delighted when homer skinned the boy out wide and set Bryan up for the first, Tippy Tappy p1sh is the future!

I'll have to disagree with the too slow in the build up line, when we got out there was only one man ahead of the ball, why just pump it up for the big centre halfs to win easily?? keeping hold and going backwards is the right thing to do, although our centre stand think they have the right to be watching Barcalona they dont they have a good wee team that try's to play football, give me that over route one every time.
++Ammo - Airdrie++
The 2nd half today showed more fight and determination to win than was seen all of last season, they knew what they had to do and done it, all be it it wasn't pretty (except the spell of possesion and patience for the 2nd goal build up) but the lads done it and thats the kind of results you need to dig out to be up there in May....another must win game next week away to Cowden, these r the bread and butter games that airdrie SHOULD/MUST win if theres to be any hope come the close of play...tally-ho!!

Don't think you understand my point, please do not mistake me for the "get the ball forward Airdrie" brigade. What I mean is that we are on the attack with players up there, and instead of looking for a killer pass or a shot, we fanny about and allow the other team to get back, and it comes to nothing. We are one paced. I don't want route one at all, but if you are going to play it on the deck, it has to be done at pace, and not walking pace, which KMac, Holmer (although he was great in the second half) and others seem to specialise in.

I'm setting myself up for a pasting here but did anyone else think Sharp had a decent game yesterday? He was organising the line well at the back and apart from a few mis-timed headers played well.

One of the best performers on the park yesterday for me Casper, if he keeps that up I definetly think we have found the big commanding centre half we needed for quite some time.

I reckon he could be doing with a few more matches under his belt but once he gets them I'm sure he and Smyth will form a very solid partnership.

Hopefully this also means McKenna will get moved further forward again as well!
++Ammo - Airdrie++
I would rather have mckenna in centre mid winning balls than dosser if big sharp came onto a game.

mn07
Maybe a homer & prunty partnership up front against cowden could work well again. Dosser always gives 100% so wouldn't want him ou t of the team at the draw of a hat. Maybe we'll get a proper look at gillies on saturday if we need options or are cruising.

no bother DAF, read it wrong, I fcuking hate the "Go Forward Airdrie!!" brigade, never been on a fcuking pitch in there life's.

Ammo I really enjoyed the tippy tappy second goal it was like watching Argentina laugh.gif
fatboy_kp
Agree with keeping the ball no use lumping it forward although we dont get forward quick enough it gives teams (like brechin yesterday) to get their shape back, we need that wee injection of pace on the wings to stretch teams and be able to hit them on the counter attack...Now if only McDougall could get his act together!! rolleyes.gif

How did Willie Dyer do for Brechin?

Who? blink.gif

I think that should answer the question, very average players

I thought he did ok. We have been desperate for a proper left back and he looked like a solid defender. It was a dire team performance though. I don't suppose he'll be able to play tomorrow night?

He started for us in the last round at Dingwall so he's cup-tied.

If I remember rightfully Holmes gave the guy an absolute nightmare on more than one occasion in the second half besides the first goal.

Then again in my opinion when Homer is played properly as an attacking midfielder/forward I think he would give most defenders in this league a very hard time.
