During my holidays I bought a spare 256Mb xD card for my wife's camera in a Wal-Mart store in California.
It was about a third of the price that we would pay here and it works fine in the camera.
However the card reader in my HP Photosmart printer won't look at it. ( I can obviously still download and print through my PC)

Is there a different format for cards in different parts of the world?
It says xD pictureCard on it the same a the one bought here but has a Capital M in front of the 256MB.
Sorry if this is a stupid question which I shouldn't need to be asking! wink.gif

Hmm, mabye memory cards are region-specific, like DVDs and games? I'm not sure though mate sorry.

Nope don't think they are because I bought a SanDisk 2GB CompactFlash card in the States and it works OK for me.

LiviClyde, does the reader on your printer still read your old 'British' cards OK ? Assuming this is your new purchase ?

Edit to add....
Just saw this bit of technical data
Type M: conforms to MLC (Multi Level Cell) architecture
Maybe your Printer card reader can't cope with multi cell architecture ? One for the HP help line ?

Yes, it's still reading the original cards, and yes, that's what I've bought only a Fujifilm one.
You're probably right about the MLC architecture bit.
