I've just read the latest proposal from the Scottish Executive which says that disabled sportsmen should play in the same teamms as able bodied sportsmen
What a load of tosh
Disabled players are nowhewe near as good as able bodied players and would just be embarrasing themsealves and their team mates if they were to appear on the same pitch as the able bodied
Yet another nonsense idea from our devolved Scottish Exec

Where do they think up these ideas
And is this the kind of nonsense they are getting paid for
So a one armed striker would never be as good as a two armed striker

Nonsense. It's perfectly possible that some disabled players are every bit as good as non-disabled ones. If they're good enough, why should they be excluded? There's many different types of disability.

What actually excludes a disabled player from taking part in play with able-bodied players, at present?
To wit, if a one-armed striker presents himself to Morton tomorrow and turns out to be the white Pele, would Morton have to turn him away?
Garrincha would be classed as disabled and he won 2 world cups
It depends what you mean by disabled.
It also depends what disability a player has.

What about Shields at Hibs? Stupid statement from the Exec, wasn't even aware that there were rules on this.
I am sure that I heard that way back there was a player with a wooden leg?

There was a keeper who had 1 eye playing in the US.
His depth-perception must've been awful!

Does anyone have a link to the actual Exec statement?
This could be something as simple as removing a few antiquated Health and Safety barriers, or it could be an extension of the ridiculous everybody's-equal,-all-must-have-prizes,-shut-your-mouth-hippie New Labour ethos. I'd rather read it before deciding where it lies.

Perhaps I should have said - I myself am disabled
Still doesn't get me in half price at away games though

Phil Hagan that used to play with Raith was deaf, he used to wear two hearing aids when playing.

My worry is that they will try and push disabled people into being played at a professional level just so clubs have a token disabled player, every team must have one player with some kind of disability nonsense. Then you must have one Ethnic minority or one Gay player in your team all just to keep the PC brigade happy. If somebody is good enough regardless of being disabled in any way they will play for a team so just leave the situation as it is.
My brother recently went to join the police force and was told by somebody to claim to be Gay as he would have a better chance of getting in. Not saying that being Gay is a disability before anybody bites my head off just that it dosent pay to be a single straight able bodied white Scottish guy in Scotland today
Yes going slightly overboard but the way the world is going at the minute with being over the top PC nothing would surprise me.

The first ever player to score in a World Cup final, the Uruguayan Pablo Dorado, only had a right hand I believe.

I play fitbaw on a Wednesday night, and one of the other guys has a prosthetic arm. He is still a good player though, and his disability in no way affects his 'game'. As people are saying, it depends on the disability. For example, I wouldn't like to tackle someone in a whell chair, cause it would bloody hurt if your foot got caught in the wheel!
Seriously though, common sense must prevail.

Didn't Ayr Utd have a one-armed teenage lad on their books a few years back?
I know there was an English Lower League side who had a player with one arm as well.
Also, Tim Howard can be classed as disabled due to his Tourette's syndrome and Dean Sheils of Hibs has only one eye.

He had his right eye removed.
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/footbal...-name_page.htmlVery few people knew he was blind in his right eye before it all came to light which show's what a good player he is.
Wish him the best as many others would have given up after going through what he has.
Tostao, the big centre forward in the Brazil 1970 team, only had one eye. Well, he had 2, but one of them was glass. Didn't do him much harm.

Gordon Banks springs to mind or was his accident after he finished playing?
It's a load of PC pish if you ask me. If you're good enough it shouldn't matter whether you're blind, gay, of any sort of skin colour, etc. Judge on ability and ability alone. I believe it's called positive discrimination whereby people are put in posts purely because of their circumstances to beef up minority percentages rather than giving the job to the best candidate. It happens in politics and in non-governmental organisations. If they educated people on over coming prejudice and accepting that there are so many different people rather than all this PC bullshit, the world would be a far better place (well Scotland at least).
