Full Version: Forfar V Morton

Morton were worthy of there win today, with the number of first half chances created meaning we should have been a good couple down.
We continued to graft in the 2nd half, loosing two very well struck goals in the process.
Short reflection for now, but fairly happy considering the injury problems we have..
On that note it looks like we will be missing Dave King, Paul Lunan, David Dunn, Alan Rattray, Fraser Coyle and Craig Lumsden next week (out of an outfield squad of 17) - (Rattray and Coyle both carrying injurys didint last the full 90).
Darren Gribben looked fairly banged up when he came off at the end also.

What's the cut off point for sending in a sick line again! ph34r.gif

Interesting Cameo from Paul Tosh at centre half for 45 minutes!

aye he used to play there for the reserves on a semi-regular basis.

Another goal for Barry Donald though! Hope he keeps this run going!

He did?

Don't ever remember that myself.
Only time I ever saw him away from the striking position in midfield during a Forfarshire cup tie with Arbroath.

We've played worse than Forfar this year and they worried us a bit in the first ten minutes. Once the first goal went in though it was one way traffic and Morton should really have gone in 2 or 3 up at half time. In the second half Forfar tried but Morton's speed on the break was the main factor that beat them and we got a classic 25 yarder from Paul McGowan and another really well worked goal where Stevenson and McGowan combined to play Chris Miller right through. After that the foot came off the pedal a bit and Forfar were well worth their goal although we feel our keeper should have come for it.

All in all, another decent day at the office. We've played better but we did enough and with our main rivals except Stirling all dropping points it all went our way.

Thought after we weathered the storm after the first 10 minutes we controlled the game. A tap in from Lilley following a Harding header from a corner, a wonder goal from Gowzer McGowan and a well taken finish from Chrissy Millar had us cruising. Then Forfar scored and we were on the back foot at times after that, and had the effort that hit the bar at 3-1 went in we would have been under more pressure.

We should have scored more though, how did Jim McAllister manage to hit the far post from 2 yards out?! blink.gif Derek Lilley hit the bar and the keeper made two good saves from a McAllister shot and Stevenson free kick in the second half.

Who was the Forfar No. 5? He looked shattered in the first half, no wonder he was hooked at HT!

Was Gribben playing with the No.10 on his back? If he was then if he "looked fairly banged up", it was totally his own fault! He spent most of the second half trying to "have" several Morton players and injured himself in the process. It didn't matter which, unlike the number 2 (Keogh?) and 11(Beith?), who seemed only interested in 'doing' Jamie Stevenson.

Alan Rattray - Club skipper so would never shirk away from playing thru pain barrier for the cause. - alas he only managed 45 today....

Oh jeez - god fordid some players having the audacity to tackle some morton players! rolleyes.gif

Keogh, Gribbs and Beith showed exactly the right attitude we need to survive. It may not be pretty, but its survival.... and if the roles were reversed I'm sure you would be wishing the same upon a Morton team fighting for survival from the drop.

Get ready for Morton and the other giants of our great game lobbying for a football version of touch rugby.

No more so than Greacean or your number 4. Christ even when you win you find something to whinge about!

Note to HopefulTon:

Under no circumstances criticise an opposition player. The plucky natives get upset.
Tonsilitis
Greacen is our no 5. 4 is Harding. These two have been absolutely solid this season and the main reason why we have only conceded 3 goals in total of which two from open play. Well done to Forfar for getting one of these although our first pick goallie would have cut out the cross. McGurn will be back in a couple of weeks.

I did'nt see them doing anything very dirty. Yes they were hard but thats what good defenders do.

Forfar on that showing will survive. We've seen worse!

I have absolutely no problem with any player tackling another player

Wrong! Given the injury crisis which Forfar are going through, surely the three players mentioned should have given their actions a bit of thought. Gribben should learn how to foul before trying. Twice he had a go and twice he came off worse and had to be treated by the physio each time.

The other two could easily been sent off, therefore adding suspensions to a long list of injuries.

So, if the shoe was on the other foot, I would want Morton players to concentrate on playing football and making sure that they were available for the next game.

If whingeing is wanting to see, arguably, the best player in the second division protected by referees, then yes I'm whinging.

Couldn't agree more! We are not even 1/4 way through the season, there is no one detached at the bottom and if Forfar can get players back and avoid any more injuries and suspensions, I think they can finish quite comfortably mid-table.

Agreed! But thats 7 without a win! bitty dissapointed with that but Tosher should play from the start because I don't think Lombardi and Gribben are the best partnership! but thats my opinion!

Barry Donald and Kevin Moon have started a good partnership in the middle though and very pleased with Barry's 2 goals in 2matches considering thats 2 in like 19 months for him lol! Barry has been playing exellently but hoping for lunan to make a quick recovery and All our defenders because we only had one defender at 1 point on Saturday and Keogh usually plays right back!

Looking 4ward to Peterhead!

Can't start an un-fit Tosher.

Give Michele a bit more time too, didn't get a full pre-season
