I've always been an IE man, but have recently downloaded Firefox as many people have stated a preference for it. So, what are the pros and cons of each browser and which would you recommend?
Peterhead Dave
I've done similar to yourself.

I think the reason I prefer IE is primarily due to ease of use - I know all the keyboard shortcuts etc, and they're different within Firefox.

That said, since I've downloaded IE7, the fact F4 doesn't highlight the address currently in the bar means I keep attempting to go to sites like http://www.thegarcias.co.ukhttp://www.piea...showtopic=45691 mad.gif

I'm also having problems playing windows media videos etc, hence downloading FF.

Firefox is great. It allows you to block annoying images, of buckets in particular. smile.gif
Pompey.
Firefox is far superior in every possible way.

I prefer FF simply because it is a lot easier to customise to your tastes wtih different themes and loads of useful extensions.

I currently have 9 extensions set up that offer some very useful features when browsing. The most useful include refreshing a page when browsing by simply double clicking on tabs which you couldn't do before, ALT + left click on a word give s you a definition, remove Google ads and spam, Slimsearch which lets you highlight a word on a web page and then perform numerous searches (all kinds of Google, Wiki, IMDB etc.) for it.

That said - there are some myths about FF that simply aren't true so to cancel out my positive speak for the browser check this out -> click

Ive just read that link and it prompted to download Opera.

Have to say, Im pretty impressed so far thumbup2.gif

edited to add -

Having had a closer look, Im even more impressed.

Tabbed browsing - with thumbnails (know where Microsoft got the idea for Vista now rolleyes.gif ), built in bittorrent downloading, and mouse "shortcuts" for reloading, Back etc are just 3 of the reasons why its looking like Opera is going to kick IE and FF well and truely in the knackers in my browser war. laugh.gif

I cant believe its been around for so long and I just ignored it ohmy.gif rolleyes.gif

Try [F6].. wink.gif ..the same key as it is in FF.

There are so many reasons I prefer Firefox and while IE7 tries to keep up with it, it still falls short. There is only one reason I can understand anyone wishing to use IE and that would be on a scripting level where it's JavaScript engine is miles ahead of Firefox's. That said, if you are using it as a browser and not as a delivery environment for web apps then I can't see why you would worry about that.

Firefox provides tabbed browsing (which is now finally part of IE7), has countless really useful extensions (AdBlock and WebDevToolbar wub.gif) and is (just now at least) the more secure of the two main players.

Opera mind has many things going for it, although I find the widgets a little clunky v9 of Opera is a damned fine browser. However for me it has to be FF all the way.

You do know that this guy has been banned from numerous forum for spreading FUD and being a general anti-FF troll. While he has a point with a few of the issues raised in that article he puts forward misconceptions that Blake Ross (Firefox originator) never claimed in the first place.

Ross makes some really good points regarding IE7 in his blog.

I dont like the widgets much either, and Ive never really used the FF extensions. For me, these are add ons. In a straight comparison on web browsing functionality Opera beats FF hands down for me wink.gif

Id recommend Firefox.

IE isnt as secure and there are mor programmes written to interfere with IE than Firefox.

Although in a few years, once Firefox becomes more popular I'll probably move to another one.

Although, its personal preference. I tried Opera but just didnt like the interface as much.
Not that theres anything wrong with it, I just didnt feel as confortable using it.

I like Firefox for some of the reasons mentioned above, so used to it now that using IE annoys me.

Haven't tried Opera yet, but I've got Opera Mini on my phone and its pretty clever
