Apparently some of the more rubberised punters have been getting jumped in the streets. Two however were drinking with locals who offered them, late on, a lift to another bar. Funnily enough when they got in the car they were driven to the outskirts of town, beaten and robbed.
Having seen the state of the cars in Lithuania they got off lightly!

What do you expect when you go to one of these soviet breakaway states. A civic reception and the keys to the city??

The "farten" army are an embarrasment. Most of them probably won't remember the game and some of them probably won't make it into the ground because they are so intoxicated.

Tarten Army. Scotlands secret shame.

You just know this little tit drives aimlessly around Falkirks Retail Park in his Grans Mobility Vauxhall Corsa which he's sprayed with pearlescent paint, lowered the suspension and stuck meaningless vents on the bonnet.

I was in Kaunas when Celtic played there in July 2003.
Only a handful were staying in Kaunas and after the game me and my mate went for a few beers. I ended up getting wasted after drinking with locals myself all night and vaguely remember walking through the old town to get to my digs.
The next day we were waiting on the train back to Poland and met a couple of other Celtic fans one of whom got jumped the night before whilst walking through the old town – his wallet was stolen, phone stolen and he got beaten up a bit.

To this day I am not sure if it was me that did it or not laugh.gif

Seriously though, it just shows you that no matter how safe you think you are you always have to be on your guard. Lithuania was nowhere like Donetsk however and certainly you'd never think that it used to be part of the Soviet Union.

Mind you, it's hardly advisable to drink yourself stupid late at night in these sort of places. Makes you a sitting duck.

Aye, and places where the average wage is about a 10th of your own.

Put all that together, and there will be elements of danger.

Like the American guy who was robbed in Trainspotting laugh.gif

I felt infinitely more safer in Kaunas than I have done in any Scottish Cities at night. Everyone from the police right down to train workers were also considerably more pleasant than those in most Western Cities.

I think it is fair to say some have pre-conceived ideas about the place simply because it used to be part of the Soviet Union.

Some things never change.

We were in Lithuania in 1998 and my mate, a folk singer called Bam Bam got mugged
after he was taken out of the city and into a forest where they hit him with metal bars. He managed to escape into the forest and jumped into a large hole which turned out to be a river and swam across to the other side where he managed, eventually, to get a lift then a taxi back to Vilnius. This was at 4 in the morning and he had, by then, a rather wet kilt on.

When he came back to my room he said, bruised and soaking, 'you'll never guess what happened !' To which I replied 'naw, but I'll make a guess'.

His luck changed when he went to the local police station and was assigned an officer who spoke English. She was tall, blonde, had a figure like Eva Herzigova and was poured into a tight black leather uniform. She had the next day off and invited him to have a tour around the city followed by.......

You can guess the rest.

Bam Bam is now singing Scottish folk songs in Inverness for a living after emigrating from Dumbarton

Where abouts does he play?Is he easily recognisable by the big cheeser on his face and the metal-bar dents on his head?

The band goes by the name of Schiehallion and they play in all the top pubs in the Inverness area including that big Irish one..Hootenanny and johnny Fox's I think. IMO
they are as good a Scottish folk group as you'll find and have done gigs for WESTA in Glasgow before and after Scotland games.
