Apparently, only players who gained 50 caps or more are eligible for induction into the official SFA Hall of Fame.

I totally disagree with this. I have no objections to the guys already included, you can hardly question the pedigree of Dalglish, Jordon, McGrain and Law etc. Tom Boyd maybe, but he was a stalwart for years, so fair enough.

What I find grossly unfair is the way the system excludes pre-1950 players. In those days there was no World Cup or European Championship qualifiers/finals and nothing like the amount of friendly matches we have today.

Therefore, a guy like Alan Morton cannot gain entry despite the Wee Blue Devil earning 30 caps, a massive tally in those days. Likewsie, Wembley Wizard Hughie Gallagher is unrepresented despite having one of the best game/goal ratios of all time.

It's not right to dismiss all these guys as ancient history. They played to enormous crowds and were they best of their time. It would also present a more balanced view of Scottish Football history.

Did the situation for this not change a couple of years ago?

I was at a dinner at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow just before Christmas which was for a Scottish Hall of Fame for such players who never made the 50 caps.

Maybe it wasn't an official SFA Hall of fame come to think of it?!

Good night it was anyway!

You are right. I just checked the SFA website. Good to see Gordon Smith in there. Was there a finer footballer in Scotland during the 40s and 50s? Five league medals outwith the Old Firm. Incredible, really.
