    • Here’s hoping out first new signing of the season is new catering. I’m sick to death of bridies with the filling spay painted on, and the heartburn that follows about twenty minutes later.  Then a new strike force please, and a replacement for Mr Chalmers    Bin day at EEP on may the 4th
    • Sadly where I live on the outskirts of Dunfermline it's the opposite. The kids playing football in the park where I stay generally are kitted out in English Premiership team shirts (Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, United)  plus the odd Real Madrid or Bayern Munich top. If your really lucky there will be a Scotland or a Celtic shirt. And knowing a few of the kids as they are pals with my youngest none of them have actually been taken to a game. Football is something that exists on the telly for them.
    • just to piggyback on this, the usual argument is it allows managers to play more youth players without fear of losing games but in reality: 1) there are actually far fewer "meaningless" game than you'd imagine. Even in the English Championship this year, a league of 24 teams and 46 games, with 3 games to go there were only 3 teams who were arithmetically both safe from relegation and out of the promotion play off race (plus Rotherham who were already relegated). With 6 games to go literally everyone still had something to play for. 2) going back to the Scottish second tier, we've seen on here in the last few weeks the discussions about how much prize money means to a team at this level and that the difference between finishing a place or two higher is effectively an extra couple of players wages for the following season. yes, that bit is a slightly harder sell to casual fans rather than diehards but there's always something to play for. In a 2nd tier of 18 you'd probably have the same playoff system as now as Prem clubs still unlikely to agree to 2 down automatically but you'd also have 3 going down at the bottom, 3rd bottom can either be automatic or playoff. I think folk would be surprised about the low number of "meaningless" games in that scenario.
    • You said nothing to do with the club though, which wasn't true.  They are run as separate entities but both reliant on each other, as both have the same owners.  Absolutely every club event is there, players stay there when newly signed etc. To say it's nothing to do with the club is just wrong. The hotel isn't a football club liability any longer.
    • Heard that also but hopefully that does not happen. Mikey McKenna is ONE player i would hope we would push the boat out for even at 33 years old, he is a massive player for the Red Lichties and yes he has not had a great season but which (apart from Scottie Stewart) AFC player has had a good season? Anybody that read his article in yesterday's Courier could feel his love for Arbroath FC and everybody connected with the club.  McKenna would be a stand out in a decent team in Division 1 and good be the difference of us having a good season or a great season that is how much i would be pushing to get him re-signed at Gayfield. I would be amazed if at 33 years old he would sign a part-time contract to go to full-time Falkirk, i have no doubt he could hold his own with any of their players but it must be strange if your fellow full-time team mates get dropped for a part-time player so not sure how that would work or might cause hassle in the dressing room?? AND if he ends up at East Fife i will just shake my head in disbelief. Smokies & Wine 36-0.
