Black Scottish Footballers

Just Google him....Andrew Watson skippered side in 1880 to a 6-1 win over England n a 5-1 win over Wales. ...his 3rd n final cap was a 5-1 win over England in 1882....some boi! ! Took English nearly a hundred more years to even cap a black player let alone give them the armband...seriously tho I know it was a totally different sport then but 3 caps 100% record an 11-2 aggregate score over England....maybe he should be in yon Scotlands last world class player thread!

I think its quite unlikely that we would have any black, non mixed race players play for Scotland at this time. There hasn't been huge levels of immigration here, and the larger communities have come from central and east Asia and elsewhere in Europe. There has also been a great deal of assimilation and mixing with communities meaning that families often have mixed race kids.

Add that onto the odds of a player being good/hyped enough to be one of the 3-4 new caps each year and it looks like a pretty tall order. It will get increasingly more likely though

Wee update. Jai Quitongo whose legendary dad Jose graced our leagues looks a good prospect. Queens have had Callum Tapping and Alex Harris who are mixed race. Botti Bia Bi has gone down to Swansea in recent years but not sure how he is doing. As has been stated by plenty on here our big hope Izzy Feruz has been chronic. There are more English born mixed race Scots being called up now with a lot of Scottish people moving to diverse parts like London over the years. Eg Jordan Archer who looks a great prospect and Matty Phillips. Still a very tiny proportion of even mixed race players breaking through.

Scotland U16's beating Qatar 7-0 right now. Wee K. Dembele absolutely running the show.

Nice goal too. Good on the lad for trying out his options. He certainly doesn't seem to have ruled anything out yet.

Fair enough Jai Quitongo was born here but both Tapping and Botti Bia Bi were born in London, Feruz was born in Somalia. I'm not even sure if Tapping or Botti Bia Bi are even eligible to play for Scotland (and even if they were I have low hopes of them ever doing so)?

Watched it on YouTube. Overall a decent performance from our lads. Worked hard defensively but didn't resort to hoofing it which was a refreshing change. Held on a bit at times and our keeper made a stunning penalty save. Though the English keeper also saved a pen he was a real bombs care. We pressed really well and deserved the win for the way we harried the English. Dembele looked absolute class. Fantastic first touch really quick and despite being tiny didn't lack for physicality. Ran out of gas after an hour n needed subbed and a lot of our lads got cramp but they were putting in a power of work against a tidy looking team. Overall he looked a star in a very respectable team performance. Hopefully the concept of not blootering the ball into orbit will filter into other Scottish sides.

Was at the 2-0 win against Uruguay this afternoon. Some lovely touches by Dembele: one memorable moment when he brought down a long ball with the deftest of touches and immediately flicked it on to a team mate demonstrated a level of skill rarely seen from a Scottish player at this, or indeed any, age group. He has the ability to ghost past players as if they're not there. I'd say there were a few other players in the team who caught the eye just as much. The right back, Kane Patterson of Spurs, was excellent, another who was technically very good and comfortable on the ball. And, it's not often you say this, but another player who really stood out for Scotland was Forrest of Celtic - Dylan Forrest. Tenacious midfield player, similar in style to Scott Brown, but a very decent footballer too. Promising signs thoughout the team.

Aye forrest was immense against England. Didn't realise it was on today. 3 wins 3 clean sheets n 11 goals scored. All in all a properly organised team with ambition to keep the ball on the deck and an xfactor player who seems to have a real work ethic. Hopefully they all keep their heads screwed on n we see plenty of them in seniors in a few years.

I saw the dembele clip on twitter. Very, very good touches there, boy has clearly got something great. Whether he ends up representing us later on, or perhaps whether he even reaches his lofty potential, remains to be seen.

Encouraging stuff, but for the younger age groups the results should be secondary. Every ounce of their efforts should be going into stopping whatever it is that means successful youth group teams lead to senior players falling down the pyramid or out the game altogether.

He looks very one-footed, I hope they're working hard on that. He's young enough to develop his right foot, and while being totally one-footed doesn't necessarily rule out being a top player (Arjen Robben) it certainly helps to be able to use both.
