Rugby Union

Pretty fascinating half of rugby, I've played against teams that have done that at the tackle area before and we found it pretty easy to pick them off around the fringes. This, however, has been executed absolutely fantastically.

Has to be said Poite has reffed this outstandingly as well. As hilarious as all of this is, you can see England blowing them away and as GAD said, the Italians love to shit the bed in the final 20 minutes.

It's actually a fairly simple thing to get around - England don't seem smart enough though.

Wilkinson has just broken down exactly how to counter it - you can guarantee if someone like him was on the field, it wouldn't be an issue.

I wonder if deliberately not forming a ruck will become a widespread tactic, a bit like Ireland's choke tackle?

I think it's going to be too easy to exploit to become widespread; here it's working because there's such an element of surprise along with the execution, but when teams have knowledge of it, the rules around it and how to react then any teams trying it will be picked off too easily - you're leaving yourself short defensively if you have 3 or 4 players going beyond the tackler and if a team just repeatedly try to pick and go quickly they'll get through.

Yeah I'd agree with that, if they try this in the next game you can be sure whoever they're playing (France?) will be prepared and tear them apart.

Thinking about it, yeah, you're both right. You need the element of surprise, and the opposition to be unable to think on their feet.

I reckon you could cause chaos by using it sparingly within games though, although that would need a lot of discipline and organisation on the part of the forwards.

Quite surprising really, you'd think with the experience they have in the pack they'd figure it out quickly, rather having Haskell and Hartley constantly asking for 'clarification'

Except there is the issue of Hartley being pretty thick and the arrogance of England thinking they can't be wrong.

Game over now sadly.

Listening to the analysts yesterday talking about possible 100 points, 10+ tries etc.

I absolutely fucking love England sometimes. That half time chat on 5live and on itv was essentially porn for fans of the other home nations.

At this rate 10 tries is still on
