Above is all good. But new found growth and optimism in Scottish Rugby needs to lead to a 3rd pro team

In the past the problem was the finance. Now I suspect the only real stumbling block is the player pool. Needs to happen though in order to spread the load during 6n n Autumn games (plus rwc ).

This report and police statement that there were no suspicious circumstances, plus as mentioned by ajwffc the listing of various helpline numbers in reports, mean that Dan Vickerman sadly took his own life. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-02-20/dan-vickerman-struggled-after-retirement-from-rugby-owen-finegan/8285644

Richard cockerill been announced as new embra coach starting next season. Have to say I think that's a dreadful appointment. Arsehole of a man and favours a turgid style of rugby which is opposite of what young scottish players should be getting taught. Eta he'll have a fecking aneurysm when he experiences his 1st pro 12 ref in a game v an irish side! !

They're going for the Robinson effect again.

Regarding this Atlantic league caper, the media are talking like it's utter concrete.

However, there's alternative rumours that Germany want to enter a franchise. We would still need to find one other team to create an even number.

Been looking through Glasgow's results this season. Can't help but notice that, barring the defeats vs Munster and Cardiff, all these defeats so far have  come during the Autumn Tests and 6N. Rumour has it that after the 2019 WC the calendar will be overhauled to improve 'player welfare'. Glasgow's welfare aswell imo!!

According to the newspaper Toronto would use a new retractable roof/indoor stadium that's just being finished.

If any 'third franchise' here was based in Aberdeen... where would they play (and who would watch them)? In the Borders... who would watch them (and where would they play)? Perennial issues. Not to mention those ideas of putting it in Stirling or Perth.

The pro12 have already had talks with Spain (how have said can't afford it) and Georgia. I don't think the Canadians have a ground to use during the winter either

Toronto is the discussed venue and a roof's due to be fitted to combat the weather. Vancouver is also an option.

Hardie, Barclay, Brown, Wilson, Bennett and Maitland all passed fit for Wales game.

Surprised about Hardie, he looked fucked! Where are you seeing this anyway? Any news on Dunbar?

Might be an improvement in refereeing to stop the moaning to the press from him

I think a third franchise is more likely to be the Caledonian franchise returning rather than Borders.

Whilst the Borders is the heartlands, it doesn't have any really large settlements and local rivalries mean some seem to find it easier to get behind Edinburgh and Glasgow than watch a generic Borders side.

Aberdeen is the location of the academy, and I guess they will locate teams around them. I'm not sure Aberdeen is the best location however even ignoring the lack of an obvious ground which counts against most locations. I've always felt Dundee has a decent rugby pedigree in terms of players coming out of the area and could perhaps pull in more than an Aberdeen team.

Callum Gibbins (Manawatu/Hurricanes) has been rumored to have signed as a replacement for Favaro. Also Djustice Sears-Duru(Canadian prop) is also leaving

Makes sense. As much as there is a lot of gnashing of teeth from the fans there is no point having players like Favaro that more injury prone than others and disappear for 6N and Autumn international games when we need good foreign players (see DTH, Matawalu etc) to support the younger ones left.

Do you have a link to the newspaper article? Can't think of any new stadiums being built in Toronto at the moment. The rugby league team, The Wolfpack will play at Lamport Stadium, a fairly uninspiring city owned stadium. They have no home games until May, probably because the field is currently covered by a dome to allow indoor 'sawker' etc
