Tommy Seymour making his case to be part of the lions tonight, absolutely unreal under the high ball and some cracking breaks.

Isn't anyone in nh better under high ball (defensively or offensively) n he's superb at cheeky intercepts. An absolute class act.

Meanwhile there is an absolute shambles of an incident at Saracens. One of these players got a red, the other no sanction. Which of them caused the incident of foul play?

Barrington did not engage the arms, yellow at worst. Barritt is a clear red. It's deliberate too. Odd that the one who will be involved in the Six Nations gets away with it.

*edit* in fact, if Barritt hadn't done that, Harrington's tackle would be fine. But, of course, Barritt is a stick-on for the upcoming Six Nations and Barrington isn't. Refereeing as dreadful as the Irish or Jerome Garces. Garces being the worst referee in history by a mile.

Barritt hasn't played for England since the autumn internationals in 2015. I don't think he's a stick-on for the six nations at all.

But I do agree Garces is a stand out abysmal ref, and that's saying something considering how atrocious the standard of reffing has been in the pro 12 especially.

Happy new year everyone. I was at the game and that was the last Pro12 game for over a month so a win was very important. The fact we got a BP is delightful.

Cardiff were surprisingly very poor and their stand-in captain Sam Warburton was nowhere to be seen. Rey Lee-Lo was thankfully quiet too.

We were clinical and bounced back well from the Russell/Seymour error for the first try. A bit annoying that we switched off right at the end to offer a bad line-out to offer Cardiff a consolation try. It happens when you're safe and over-relaxed though.

Elsewhere in the Pro12 Ospreys got a BP win at home to Connacht. Expected tbh. In Europe, Munster went and got a BP win at an under-strength Racing. Again, fully expected that tbh.

I think under the new law the ref could of sent both players off

Quote

Reckless tackle
A player is deemed to have made reckless contact during a tackle or attempted tackle or during other phases of the game if in making contact, the player knew or should have known that there was a risk of making contact with the head of an opponent, but did so anyway. This sanction applies even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders. This type of contact also applies to grabbing and rolling or twisting around the head/neck area even if the contact starts below the line of the shoulders.

Minimum sanction: Yellow card
Maximum sanction: Red card

Accidental tackle
When making contact with another player during a tackle or attempted tackle or during other phases of the game, if a player makes accidental contact with an opponent's head, either directly or where the contact starts below the line of the shoulders, the player may still be sanctioned. This includes situations where the ball-carrier slips into the tackle.

Minimum sanction: Penalty

*Angry pedantry* It's not a new law, it's a tougher sanction. *Angry pedantry*

Which is actually part of the problem. They have been so lax on tackles "slipping up" that the new zero tolerance approach seems (in some cases) overly harsh. They have had the same problem with the scrum and the breakdown where they have tried to fix problems they have caused by not just getting the refs to enforce properly laws that are already there.

As for the Sarries incident, under the new sanctions, he SHOULD have sent both off. It's already being widely reported that Barritt will be facing the judiciary, which of course begs the question "How did the ref and TMO manage to avoid sending him off"?

There's not a lot of difference between what Barritt did and what Hartley saw red for just a few weeks ago, both should have had the same outcome with red being the only appropriate punishment imo. I saw on Twitter folk saying that the officials didn't want to turn the match into a no contest by dismissing two players, which would be ridiculous if true, that's no concern of the officials their job is purely to apply the laws of the game.

These are the same kind of idiots that say football refs are at fault because "we want 11 v 11", instead of telling the players to stop acting like fannies.

On Glasgow- fairly dull game, 2 defensive mistakes only think really preventing a very low score from Cardiff. Job done and move on.

Barritt / Barrington, probably two red cards. Barritt is probably a red, high swinging arm. Barrington is more unlucky, TV makes that worse as Barritt's actions mean the tackled player is well on the way to ground as he goes down. Still player responsibility to tackle correctly but I might have said Yellow for that.

Also Warburton done? Whoever said that is correct. He'll no doubt be off to NZ.

Warburton may be difficult to justify as a pick for Wales in the 6N.

Right now, Tipuric, Baker, Moriarty, Cracknell and James Davies would all be ahead of him on form, as would Faletau who may miss out under "Gatland's Law", and Thomas Young, who has been Wasps' outstanding player, and due to some bizarre circumstances isn't affected by Gatland's Law.

ETA: Faletau is of course injured at the moment too!

I've a lot of time for James Davies. Tremendous competitor at the ruck and an annoying wee sod to play against. He was superb in Olympic 7s. Shame Wales generally go for gym monsters because he's sort of player who could secure quick ball if they went for a more creative style....ok it's not a shame screw them [emoji2]
