Overton has a problem in the rib area, they think he damaged it trying to twist for that caught and bowled chance earlier. Big blow if he can't bowl again.

England's day yesterday, Australia's today.

A bit alarmist, no?!

An in form and fit Mark Wood and Steve Finn together with Stokes would transform the look of the team. The question is why do so many English fast bowlers seem to slow down or get injuries, not an original question either. That and Ali is not good enough as a spinner. On a grim cloudy day in Nottingham or Manchester the England attack looks world beaters, when the sun is out in Johannesburg or Brisbane they look like net bowlers.

They need pace.

Australia grinding a totally ineffectual England into the dirt here. It speaks volumes when Malan comes on and the batsmen would rather take on Ali [emoji38] Also pleased to see Broad getting smacked around the park.

Tynieness's assessment is spot on though. Anderson and Broad are barely effective outside England, Ali is a bang average spinner. There's not much beyond that. Stokes is going to be carrying this shower of shite for years.

The coaches ruined Finn. He had some real pace and bounce but because he got so close to the stumps on his run up that he occasionally hit them, they decided to completely rebuild his action.

The questions for during the night will be how much of a lead do Australia want to have, and how much time do they want to give themselves to bowl England out again. If they can get a quick 100 runs I can see them putting England in to bat at lunchtime. 250 might be enough to win it, and they won't want their seamers to be fielding for too long before opening the bowling.

250-300 would definitely do Australia.

This is miserable. Barring rain another whitewash seems likely. Broad and Anderson can only bowl in English conditions and without them taking wickets the England attack really isn't up to much. Batting wise Cook looks done. All to often he looks like he's set up nicely and is playing good cricket but then he gets himself out without making many runs. Root, Stokes and Bairstow are carrying the batting far too often and it really shows when one or all of them get out too quickly (or lose their place due to off-field antics). Of the up and coming players Malan has potential but he seems to be pretty much the only positive coming out of this series. I think the really frustrating thing is this isn't a great Aussie side but England are making them look like they are.

All the frailties displayed in the summer against the Windies look even worse in Australian conditions. The extra few mph the Aussie bowlers have just makes them so much more dangerous than the English bowlers. It's been years since England had anyone who could be getting around the 90mph mark on a regular basis. The body language from the England team this morning was woeful, with very little encouragement being shown from any of the fielders towards the bowlers. It's definitely a squad on the decline at the moment, and a dearth of quality coming through.
