For those with a better knowledge of these things than I, when will Ireland likely get an actual test series against one of the existing test sides?

They are hoping for England in 2019.
They'd be looking at a couple of tests early season I'd imagine before the big touring countries arrive.

I'm guessing they don't have many venues (literally all I know about Ireland is when I've seen them in the World Cup or when they've played Scotland) but a mini-tour of England in Ireland sounds like great fun.

Presumably Eoin Morgan will no longer be able to play for England?

Why would you think that? Jonathan Trott could still play for England if he got a recall, and his country have had test status for twenty-five years or so.

It will, hopefully, mean that the next generation of Irish talent may be more likely to represent Ireland.

However, if the country does produce any megastars, they will make more money playing for England or playing as a global T20 specialist than they would playing for the Irish test team... so I wouldn't necessarily expect a huge improvement in playing standards.

Henry 'Blowers' Blowfeld retiring from TMS after the summers tests. He was a slavver at times but he did have a very cricket voice.

I always feel that I should hate him - but I don't. Talks nonsense a lot but it's a good listen. Definitely one of those iconic voices that define people's experience of sport.

It's a little bit different

Jonathon Trott hadn't represented South Africa beyond under 19 level

Eoin Morgan was a full international for Ireland for five years

That said as Ireland weren't a test nation at the time he's probably not cup tied.

The real impact is likely to be that he won't be able to go back to Ireland once his career starts winding down

I expect he would, but there would probably be a few years to weight for clearance.

Realistically, once he's not getting picked by England anymore he will be milking the Twenty20 Mercenary circuit for all it's worth so I doubt he'll play for Ireland again, except maybe in the Twenty20 World Cup.

Anyway, we are fucking this up...

I wonder if that could end up working against Ireland? If they end up producing some genius and want to give him his first cap at twenty, he might decide not to bother as he'd have to wait until he reached twenty-five to play for England.

It would be nice if England just made a firm commitment not to nick their players but I don't see that happening.

You are eligible to play for another test nation after 4 years from your last appearance, provided you meet the residency eligibility requirements. This doesn't apply when moving from an associate to a test nation though.

What about moving in the opposite direction from a test nation to an associate

Unless it has changed since Joyce went back to Ireland, four years...

"Under normal circumstances it takes four years to qualify to play for a country; having played for England at the 2007 World Cup in April 2007, Joyce was set to miss playing for Ireland in the 2011 tournament, taking place in February."

However, it can be quicker on rare occasions...

"In November 2010, the ICC announced that Joyce's qualification period would be shortened by the ICC and that he would be allowed to play for Ireland at the World Cup, and he was subsequently selected in Ireland's 15-man squad for the tournament."

Yeah, it's 4 years going from a test nation to associate (otherwise someone like Morgan could effectively play for both at the same time). The only time it isn't 4 years is from associate to test.

In other news, Roy's dismissal today was the first instance of obstructing the field in international T20s. It was spot on as well.

England are happy to steal saffers n aussies of course they won't commit to not stealing Irish [emoji38]

Eta fairly astonished that England threw that away. Morris was the only big threat which left 16 overs to see it out. Livingstone didnt have a game to remember.
