Folk saying it'll free Cook up a bit but without the protection of the captaincy and at 32 he's only really one bad run of form away from being binned for good with the emergence of Hameed, Jennings, and to a lesser extent Duckett over the last few months.

He's still a key part of the team

I'd have an out of form Cook open the batting ahead of Duckett tbh.

A wonderful opening batsmen who is one of the best of his era, which has unfortunately coincided with a lot of white ball fans wanting big hitters in Test cricket.
A good captain too, not many can say they won the Ashes twice.

I would have preferred to have seen Bairstow take the captaincy but Root has obviously been groomed and deserves his chance.

According to my research (Wikipedia...), eight. That's only counting those who have won, as opposed to just retained, the Ashes.

WG Grace is most succesful with four wins.

Mike Brearley managed three.

Arthur Shrewsbury, Percy Chapman, Len Hutton, Ray Illingworth, Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook all did it twice.

Lord Harris also had two series wins against the Aussies but one was before the term "Ashes" had been coined.

Australia vs India - 2nd Test at Bengaluru

Stumps: Day 1

India 189

Australia 40/0 (16.0 ov)

Woke up to find it had been another good day for Australia in the subcontinent.

West Indies lost the first ODI against England last night - looking increasingly like the Windies will be outwith the Top 8 for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Great ODI between England & Windies yesterday - shows it doesn't always have to be crash, bang, wallop!

Meanwhile back in Test Cricket India have fought their way back into the Second Test, currently 33 ahead of Australia with 3 wickets down in their second Innings.
