I'd add that the players are cheating a lot less on the back of it. Italy are probably glad they didn't qualify as half their in-game strategy for defending would be fucked. I guess because the VAR doesn’t make the decision, it merely advises the referee to check his decision. That's fair enough, but he also takes (often incorrect) advice from his other assistant referees without having seen it himself, why should VAR be any different?
