Do you like the English?

Recommended Posts

I work with loads of English guys. Almost all of them are sound, and whilst I am aware that this isnt exactly a full cross section of society, what I will day about them is that despite them sharing some of my trade-unionist type views, I have ket very few if any English people of anything approaching a socialist outlook, and I think I am correct in saying all of the ones I know have at some point shown some degree of racism.

I'm happy to count them amongst the former.
I know it's an old cliche that the northerners are warmer and more likeable than the southerners, but I have generally found it to have some substance.

Completely, there is a certain charm to people from Sheffield. Same goes for Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool. The closer you get to London you see a bigger abundance of ignorant arseholes.

I've no problem the english, I have made many friends in England during various trips down south.

In fact I've had more problems up here with neighbours or w@nkers at work.

I think we might agree our problem is really the english media, especially around world cup time!

Except the language...

You are mate. And as such you likely understand the geographical location of the majority of lads I work with so it will be little surprise they are a bit brexity

North East of England? I’ve met plenty of decent enough guys, although I tend to disagree with their views on foreigners, Brexit and Tommy Robinson.

Aye. Teesside mafia.... Exactly as I said. They are mostly all sound although a few fannies as per average. But they are a fairly Brexity bunch!

I find this a plus point of Edinburgh. The less fannies that try to talk shit to me the better imo.

I don’t mind it either and I don’t think people in Edinburgh are unfriendly as such, just general exchanges with members of the public or in shops etc aren’t exactly warm when compared to Sheffield.

Glasgow, of course is often described as the friendliest city in Scotland.

It's also the most violent - so when you get beaten up or stabbed your assailant will give you directions to the nearest hospital.

Geordies and scousers are sound. Cockneys though

You ever tried to share a night time Megabus to London with a Geordie and a Scouse junkie who are constantly up and down to the toilet and raking through bags for "tablets"? I have, they were absolute c***s.

I know, I know, it was the Megabus, what did I expect etc

Live in Cheshire and you get good folk and arseholes like everywhere else. Going to London next week so expect a Macglashan like rant after I have been exposed to those ignorant fucktards. I do not like Doncaster however from personal experience, violent angry people round there.

I guarantee you'll either be mugged or not appreciated. Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central, and Shattered Dreams Parkway.

What about Sheffield itself? I go there a few times a year and the people there are brand new, far more friendly than the folk of Edinburgh (which isn’t hard).

If you had to deal with the kind of fuckwits who come here during the Fringe you would be unfriendly too. I'm talking about the type who get on a bus en masse, question the driver for five minutes then get off again. Or if by some miracle they're on the right bus, the concept of 'exact fare only' is utterly baffling.

I’ve been in Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Darlington, Leeds, York, Manchester, Newcastle, Lincoln, Grimsby; and to a man, they are for the most part insufferable c***s. Manchester being the least worst, Grimsby/Scunthorpe being the absolute worst.

I used to think that if you drew a line between the Severn and The Wash, most of the arseholes in England were concentrated south and east of it. Now I'm not so sure...some of the most swivel-eyed Brexit taking-back-our-country types came from places like Cumbria and Lancashire I previously had a lot of time for that are well north of it.

Good folk and bad folk everywhere, including here, I suppose. The unthinking Scottish "it's whit ma faither voted" Labour types are just as bad as the unthinking English "trust our betters" working class Tories.

As far as supporting England at any sport...f**k that. It was bad enough when they won the rugby world cup - can you imagine what the 2018 media would be like if they won the football one? I'll only really relax and enjoy this one once they're safely out.
