I've listened to this through about 7 or 8 times now while I've been at work and it's not the absolute shitshow some people are declaring it. It's just a bit bland. I wouldn't have said there are any singles. It's probably an album which is greater than the sum of it's parts.

After listening to the album a couple of times, it is slowly growing on me. It is not as good as Whatever people say I am, Favourite Worst Nightmare, AM or even Suck It and See, but is certainly isn't as bad as many are making it out to be on social media.

Also Four out of Five is definitely one of my favourite songs by them now.

This - by far and away their best album. Cornerstone and Crying Lightning are great songs but Dance Little Liar and the Jeweller's Hands are completely underrated.

Dangerous Animals and Pretty Visitors as well. Seeing PV still gets an airing at their live shows so looking forward to seeing them at Primavera even more now.

I’m surprised folk have suck it and see so far down. I love that album.

Think you could make the argument that they haven't made a bad record. I wouldn't have any of them at less than a 7/10 personally.

Humbug is definitely a vastly underrated album. Find it such an easy listen as well as there being some bangers and hidden gems in there too.

FWN is probably still my favourite though. Starts off upbeat and fast-paced similar to WPSIA, before descending into a bit more of raw emotion with tunes like Do Me A Favour and 505 which I think gives it the edge.

Not really liked their stuff since I was about 18 but I quite enjoy that new single.

Similar to the problem Noel Gallagher is now facing.  If you can't chuck pints about when it's playing then it's shite apparently.

Would agree with this. I've been listening to it on my way into uni for the past 2-3 days, and it just fits together as a whole album rather than picking and choosing songs. I like it, it's not their best work but it's a little bit different.

I hated "Humbug" when it first came out but it has definitely grown on me. Never quite understood the dislike for "Suck It & See" either.

A year on from release, has anyone changed their opinion on this album?

I hated it at first, started to like it by the 10th or so listen, and now I think it's a masterpiece and easily their best album.

It’s really good live.

I have spent the last fortnight listening, and then listening some more, to every Arctic Monkeys album. I hereby declare the following definitive ranking of their albums:

  1.  Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino
  2.  Humbug
  3.  Suck It And See
  4.  AM
  5.  Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
  6.  Favourite Worst Nightmare

All placings are final.

Here we have it folks - the worst post in the history of Pie and Bovril.com.

Hard lines to the 500 Falkirk posters who tried so hard only to be trounced like this in the end.

Absolutely spot on. Agree with every placing.

TBH+C is a fucking masterpiece. Will be looked back on as this generation's Pet Sounds.

Having listened to the album another couple of times I have come to the conclusion that it's far from being rubbish, it's just wholly nondescript. Nothing on it stands out at all, it's easy enough to listen to, but that is about the highest compliment I can pay it.

In my opinion where it truly falls down is if you're listening on Spotify and let it run through onto AM, straight away it grabs you with two belters and doesn't really stop., undeniably a better album. Whilst it's unrealistic to expect an artist to continue to throw out the same stuff like running about Sheffield and scrapping, the Arctic Monkeys have always moved their sound on, Favourite Worst Nightmare was less earthy than Whatever People Say for example. What I don't think is unrealistic is for something to stand out or represent something they've done in the past, and fair enough this is clearly a "concept" album, it's a bit of a slap in the face to wait five years for something so meh.

tl:dr, this album is meh and will be ranked as such;

Years later I can't really disagree with these still. I don't think it is in anyway bad but it's total background music.
I'll see if there is a "The Car" thread...

I've tickets to see them in June so looking forward to it.

I also like The Car, tbf.

Also going along to Bellahouston for the gig which should be great. They were magic at TRNSMT a few years back.
