craigkillie
This part of the forum must have some of the most miserable c***s going. Constantly going on about how shite we've been, and yet when we make the semi-final of the tournament in spite of that shiteness they're annoyed that we aren't beating the two-time reigning champions. JamieT1314
England arent that good. If we had a go we'd have giving them a game instead of standing off them.
No_Problemo
We have been poor second half in every game I’ve seen (the last three) We had some pretty young players out there for the age group so can only help them.

In part I agree, although I found it annoying that as soon as went a goal up we seemed to do what we normally do, sit back and let them onto us. That tactic may have been okay up until half time, as clearly you don't want to concede so soon after scoring, but to employ the same tactic the second half was all wrong. Even at senior level I've seen us do that and concede, because we don't have the defence capable of dealing with sustained pressure, and there's always a mistake in us. In saying that, some of the shouts on here are laughable. Shouts like 'get shot of that number 9', who for me has been one of the successes of the tournament. He's got a physical presence, but also some neat touches. Gilmour has done really well for someone so young, just needs to build himself up a bit physically. Really been annoyed with Burke though, has moments of real class in him (South Korea goal) but has gone hiding too often. Also to mention, that commentator was a shocker, could we no' have had Liam McLeod, at least we'd have been good for a stat or two.....

Their squad in Toulon is basically the same group that won the U-20 World Cup last year. So if they aren't good, god help the rest of us.

killieshire
First half was an even contest with a fine goal from better MJ. Not sure why Wilson didn't come back out second half for injury or for tactical reasons. Unfortunately it affected the team. His work rate defensively, in particular tracking runs from midfield is exceptional as he reads the game well, allows our flair players to get forward with less risk. See the first goal for England where Johnston doesn't track back (as he did a lot v's Togo). After that it was downhill. Very harsh to say Men vs Boys, which was the case in last years semi final between the 2 teams. England do though have a more consistent quality across the team. Scotland though do have some good players. Gilmour looks a real talent especially when you consider his young age, fine skills and great work rate. Taylor was excellent across the whole tournament and looks destined to have a good career, shame he will not play for the Scotland first team given who he has in front him. Johnston has potential as he his clearly a very skilful player but needs to work on both his decision making in the final third (similar to the way JJ did and his defensive side/ work rate). Burke and Ralston were disappointing given previous form for the U21s but both have time on their side and did show the odd glimpse of what they are capable of. This Depressing tbh. It's exactly the same as the full team any time we take the lead. We need to instill a belief in players from a young age that sitting deep is actually counter productive to maintaining a lead. We were more than a match for England right up until taking the lead and then immediately you see our front line start to camp well in our own half. We'll never get anywhere with that attitude

Gordopolis
Plenty of positives to take from this tourney: Semi finalists for the second year in a row Beat France along the way Two wonder goals Several really promising prospects: Gilmour, Johnston, Burke, Horn(s)by Gilmour in particular stood out in that he seemed so comfortable taking the ball in any position from any angle and looked equally at ease carrying it forward and delivering clever, calculated passes to the front line. Just hope he doesn't end up one of many on the Chelsea youth books. Too early for him to be loaned out I'd say and too early for him to break into the Chelsea team so might just have to bide our time and cross our fingers for him.
