Geographically, yes. Politically, no. They are a Sovereign State though and therefore a foreign Country to ours.

Language is a moot point. The prominent language of America is also English........aren't they a foreign Country to us?

You will never need a passport to visit the emerald isle. For the ignorant ( that s you Mullarkey) there has always been a special arrangement between us and Ireland and will remain thus.
