Brother Blades Posted April 14, 2018 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Looking at the crowd figures from all games today & all were (according to Sky) 700ish (699 at Elgin) apart from Stenny which was nearly half of the other games. Crowd-wanking is a very lame pastime but I’m wondering when the 2nd division had average crowds as high as today? I’m only going by Sky figures so may be way off, but with the title & play-offs still to be decided along with the slim chance for Cowdenbeath at the bottom will have boosted crowds today. Can anyone who attended the games give a rough estimate of what they thought the crowd was? Sky figures- Clyde - 715 Peterhead- 785 Montrose - 805 Elgin- 699 Stenhousemuir - 378 Great end to the season & will provide clubs with some much needed income in all parts of the table. The main stand and the home end of the East were both pretty full and plenty of folk standing as well. Was a really nice day here today though so that maybe encouraged people out. Like you I would say the crowd at Balmoor was what was put out. MOFOREVER Posted April 15, 2018 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Crowd figure of 805 correct at Montrose. League position helped of course and a warm sunny day did too. Just as well it was warm as the injured lad lay on the pitch for 50 minutes until an ambulance arrived. If that had happened the previous home game the lad would have died of hypothermia! Have to say though that Montrose have got it right off the pitch as well as on it. Three function rooms were chocca with fans enjoying hospitality at £40 a head plus huge bar takings at all three. Add to that full use of the pitch 6 or 7 days a week along with almost daily functions in the main stand for community projects. The club are in the process of buying back Links Park so all income is theirs and not going to landlords or councils. A much improved business model. Football club Directors/Owners often come in for a lot of stick but the Board at Montrose these days are great people and mainly if not entirely local or locally based. They are not all 'money men' but work as a team off the field, work with the onfield team and work with a now vibrant Supporters Club as well. The fact that instead of hospitality at every third game there are now 3 hospitality rooms going every game means that income is higher, gates are higher, expectation is higher. The excellent facilities at Links Park are being put to good use all through the week with Community stuff indoors and the outdoor pitch in use every day so income from that as well. The ground is being bought back in instalments but in the meantime what income is being generated is going into football matters - compare that with clubs operating on council owned grounds or which only have archaic facilities. Right now the whole thing is a very good business model and Montrose FC now represent Scotland having recently been appointed to the elite Board of the European Football Development Network which focuses on community work undertaken by the club. Considering the other European clubs representing their countries on that Board are top clubs in their countries that's a measure of how things have improved at Links Park off the pitch in the last couple of years.
