A wee bit sad to see these cups go but there are good reasons for it. I'm sure most fans will have fond memories of them even if they often felt like a pain in the arse at the time.

Over the years I've  enjoyed taking in games on the occasional sunny midweek evening in the Sectionals at the start and this and the end of the season.

Has it been formally announced that this is being scrapped btw?

Lanark 4 Maryhill 1

Very well deserved victory today following our abysmal showing last week.  Completely outplayed our higher ranked opponents after going 1 down to our obligatory crappy set piece goal.

Our first and fourth goals were penalties converted by Shaun Gallagher in between which Ronan Kearney and Scott Schoneville each scored an excellent goal following some lovely play .

We missed a few chances, as did Maryhill early on. We should have had a 3rd penalty but the young ref was not going to make himself more unpopular by giving it.  Both sides were aggrieved with certain decisions, the worst of which was an offside with our man clean through having started his run in his own half.

Impressed by the Maryhill captain - an old hand. Their number 8 lost the plot after conceding the 2nd penalty. Was unquestionably a foul but he then squared up to 3 separate players following the award and had to go.

No, but I understand the recommendations of the consultation group are that the end of season League Cups are scrapped and the Sectional cups are restructured.

Cheers, sorry to derail your topic slightly but what is the restructured Sectional likely to look like?

Main proposal is all 64 clubs in 1 tournament, 4-team sections and a regionalised draw for the knockout stage. Kept at pre-/early season.

All still to be discussed and approved at GM & AGM of course.

I'd keep it, but exclude the top 2 divisions from entry.  Keeps the cup alive and gives the teams in the lower divisions a real chance of winning a trophy.

Highly likely outcome as the Pollok's and Petershill's head towards the Irn Bru Cup.

Well done to Lanark who thoroughly deserved their victory, but Maryhill were truly awful.  Impressed by Kearney who was the best player on the park. Maryhill could do with someone like him!

Somebody else i noticed getting a win yesterday was Wishaw on penalties v Port Glasgow. 23 games for Wishaw starting next Saturday.

That's a solid 1 day, 10 and a half hours of football (if nobody makes any substitutions).

He was up for it yesterday. A good lad with lots of potential.

Comfortable enough in the end against the 'Ants'

Manager made several changes which included a start and man of match performance from Player/Coach JP McBride who also scored an excellent free kick on the night.

Our midfield finished with the 3 auld yins.

Robbie Winters (43)

David Dickson (41)

JP McBride (39)

All 3 on the score sheet.
