Utd v Dumbarton

Recommended Posts

What's happened lads? You always used to give us a tough time but tonight has been pretty poor.

We haven't scored a league goal against anyone other than Brechin since the 26th of December. Boxing Day. Last year. Over 3 months ago. 11 games ago (if you discount the two Brechin games).

Tonight was pish again. We had a couple of decent chances but Dundee Utd could've had about 5 or 6 in the end up. The usual suspects were pish and the semi decent players were below semi decent.

We used to be a team who were solid defensively but didn't really score. We're slowly morphing into a team who are awful defensively and still don't score and that's only going to end one way - fuckin doon.

And is that necessarily such a bad thing ?  It's quite hard to get a breath when year head is constantly under water.  Our Wigan/Wimbledon act was only ever going to last so long and it's frankly become utter pish to witness, so perhaps time to regroup in a less oppressive environment, no ?

Cue a dozen posts about the Cowdenbeath Experience,  conveniently overlooking that Ayr and Raith have thus far survived to tell the tale.  Sometimes a reboot can work wonders, and who knows, we might get back some of the droves who have deserted us in recent seasons.

Highlight of the game has to be that useless c**t Clancy letting us take a free kick for offside 10 yards in the opposition half.
^^^^^ hasnt reas the rule book!

the rules for where free kicks are raken for offside have changed from the start of the season. Now it's taken from where the player touches the ball not where they were offside. Yes, sounds daft but that's the rule.

Too many players below par tonight. Defensively we weren’t great. Neither were United. The difference being their ability to take the one clear cut chance to come their way first half, and add to it with a bit of fortune for the second.

Id rather have a half fit Stewart start than a fully fit Callum Gallagher, who simply isn’t a centre forward. Three or four decent chances tonight and unable to take any of them. We simply don’t look like scoring with Gallagher leading the line.

Handling was poor and ahoulve been hooked before the hour mark.

Wilson not good enough.

Ref wasn’t great. Thought we could’ve had a penalty second half. Seen them given. Also awarded is a free kick when Handling appeared to fall over his own feet.

Hutton did ok but tired. Froxy just tired.

The pies were decent.

Atkin needs to look at how we are set up. The lack of urgency in our play is frustrating and the players look devoid of confidence.

Perhaps not but I still would rather see us survive than go down. It doesn't need to be a drag, both Ian Murray and Aitken have proved that in the past. In Aitken's case we were scoring for fun less than 12 months ago. Is the budget really all that smaller than last season? It may be reduced but looking at the squad and the amount of players on the books I'm not hugely convinced it's been slashed to the point we can't score a goal.

Ayr and Raith were always going to be strong favourites to come straight back up due to being full time and having bigger budgets. The likes of Alloa have an owner who actually cares about the club and seem to be there or thereabouts since going down. With our current situation off the park I'm not convinced going down will give us the chance to regroup. If anything I can see the budget being slashed fairly dramatically and who knows where that could take us.

I'm not one of those who think we'll do a Cowden but I'd rather a relegation battle in the Championship than mid table obscurity in League 1.

I thought we played quite well tonight and actually passed the ball out for what seems like the first time in months. Could and should have scored five or six. Difficult to gauge whether we're starting to find a bit of form or just flattered by how unbelievably pish Dumbarton are. Probably the latter.

Mohsni's good though, which is a pleasant surprise.

Going down could be a disaster for the club, whereas staying up could be a disaster for the club.
