In season 1956-57 Kilsyth played 26 games from 6th April till their final game on 15th June. This included our losing Scottish cup final game against Banks of Dee.  In the final week we had six games in eight days, two of which had extra time played, a monday night game with thirty minutes added, tuesday just the ninety minutes, Wednesday, a West of Scotland  semi against Baillieston at Cathkin Park which went to 150 minutes and did not finish till after ten o'clock with no scoring. Thursday night the replay which we lost 2-0 thankfully. A night off on Friday then we beat Shettleston 2-1 at Shawfield on the Saturday. Incredibly we managed to fit in a friendly on the 31st May, although that was only because the referee for the fixture against Duntocher Hibs never turned up.

A young lad from Banknock by the name of Andrew Fleming volunteered to referee the game and did quite a decent job as I remember. He went on to become a very well respected figure during the 60's , 70's & 80's in Scottish refereeing circles and continued as a mentor to young refs for many years afterwards. We just slipped in that  extra game so that we could claim to have gone one better than Shotts would do more than half a century later.
