Automatic relegation from League 2

If the LL/HL champions were regularly trouncing Club42, I would say you would have a point.

However, Club 42 have won 2 and lost1 so far, and Edinburgh City needed extra time to beat Shire.

Once LL & HL champs are winning consistently, lets relegate club 42 automatically and make club 41 play off against loser of HL/LL playoff. Until then, however, we should make the HL/LL champion prove that they are better than the worst current SPFL side.

Can't be far away now. No other league gives the bottom placed team a 2nd chance. Lowland league and highland league are getting stronger every year. Hopefully it will be put in place for next season

Agree should be automatic relegation from League 2. The sooner this is in place the better imo.

Highland League is weaker than it used to be - it has lost many of its bigger clubs

No cant see it - not until the base of the pyramid is stronger with juniors moving over in numbers

That is actually happening at the moment. Six east region clubs (including Camelon and Musselburgh) are believed to have applied to the EoS League for entry next season with at least two more (including Bonnyrigg) likely to follow, and up to five west super premier clubs (including Kilwinning and Clydebank) are said to be interested in a new west regional division to be started under EoS auspices.

This is the way things should be going for the benefit of Scottish football overall. What's the point of replacing one wee club with another? OK it's fair, but is it improving anything?

We have to get to the point where the whole structure is more positive in Scotland and that probably means bigger divisions* especially in the lower divisions so that more clubs have a chance of progress and that has to include those Junior, LL and HL sides who want to come into a geographically national structure.

* with more automatic promotion and relegation places.

Terrible logic. Winning the play-off can't be the measuring stick for quality.  See Brechin: beat Raith Rovers in a two legged play-off to win promotion and haven't won a league game this year. The quality of the teams are irrelevant - if they win their league they should be promoted regardless of whether they're deemed of good enough quality. If they're completely shite and out of their depth they get relegated, it's very simple.

Relegate the bottom place and have 9th play-off against a second team from the HL/LL like every other league in the country.

They aren't - once the pyramid is operating properly and is suitably strengthened they accept it

Can you give me an example of a "suitably strengthened" Lowland League?

What we're essentially saying here is that the teams below Cowdenbeath in the SPFL are not up to some arbitrary quality standard and therefore should not be promoted for winning their league. It's nonsense.

No it's not nonsense - they get get the chance to prove they are up to the quality standard by winning the play offs. So that is the test of quality at present. To have a proper pyramid all relevant clubs need to participate to ensure the pyramid has a more sound base. The juniors should not be standing aloof - because with their addition you improve the quality of the competition, press interest, crowds, sponsorship and makes the drop a bit more manageable for SPFL clubs into what would effectively be the 5th division. Progressive junior clubs are starting to see that - in addition the 3 winners of the regional junior leagues should probably have their entry to the Scottish Cup taken away to help prompt this move.

High time automatic relegation was brought in,cowden on course for a 2nd bottom spot in a row,how many more times?  Its becoming a farce!!

It also benefits those trying to get up to the SPFL,win the HL/LL play'off and your in the SPFL,its all round fairer.

Can understand why it wasnt brought in straight away, turkeys voting for xmas and all that but times hav changed.

What if cowden to go down,(EK,Spartans or Cove are no mugs) its a lot harder to come back up if you hav to negotiate 4 play-off games instead off 2?

Brechin won their play-off (against a full-time Championship side) and have been so far out of their depth this season that they haven't won a game and look set to be relegated before March is over.  By your logic, Brechin proved they were up to the quality of the Championship when they beat Raith over two legs, but it's clear that is not the case (likely to finish with the lowest ever points total for the second tier).  Now what has transpired is fine - Brechin got there on merit and are fully deserving of their crack at the Championship. It's not gone well, they go back down a level and try again.

The pyramid is there for every participating team to find their level, quite why we need to effectively "vet" the LL/HL teams for the quality they've got by having a play-off is anyone's guess.  To put your argument back to you, lets imagine the Premiership clubs start saying this - would you be supportive of the winner of the Championship having to go through a play-off to prove they were "up to the standard" or would you see it as the Premiership clubs trying to preserve their status in the top tier? Sorry, but it IS nonsense.

Agree wholeheartedly that the juniors should be fully involved, but a large number of them aren't interested and we can't sit around waiting for them. Lets get a fair system in place for the teams that actually want to achieve things in the senior game.

But I am not posting about what would be to Cowdenbeath's advantage - I am suggesting what is right for Scottish football. The Pyramid needs a stronger base if it wants this additional concession of automatic promotion

Hardly a farce a club being in a play off twice in a row - happens all the time with play offs. Shire were often bottom of the League for many many seasons - that you might argue was a farce but the SPFL did something to change that dynamic

Wait a minute - the championship/premiership is an entirely different thing and irrelevant.  That's like the tired old two up two down debate.  There was no pyramid system a few years ago - the SPFL clubs made a concession to have a pyramid on the basis suitable leagues would be put in place outwith the SPFL.  The promotion play off was part of that concession - so now another concession is sought what is offered by the non-League clubs?  It should be a set up which is being strengthened by the addition of many junior clubs thus making the Lowland League a much more attractive prospect all round and more commercially viable.  Not just some completely flawed idea of 'fairness' based on nothing much really

Sorry but that's complete pish. Football clubs shouldn't be deciding who is good enough to compete in whichever league - your football teams play and the football decides. If they are complete pish and out of their depth then they get replaced, it's really simple. Your "doing the best for Scottish football" line is completely laughable too.
