Watch This - A Refereeing Lesson For Football

Recommended Posts

Rugby is a far more dynamic and complex game than football. with bodies flying into close contact from every angle.  In football, we tend to see one-on-one tackles, for example, and the refs too often get it wrong.  To be fair to football referees, due to the nature of rugby their referees tend to always be closer to the action. However,  they'll still refer to the video to check - and the end result is always the correct result.

I played rugby and follow it.  I remember the argument about video slowing down games.  Waiting on video outcomes is now part of the entertainment. Give it a few years and we'll follow rugby and our game will be better for it.

Craig Joubert still fucked up Scotland’s World Cup Quarter final against Australia though.

Anyone feel like addressing the topic?

The answer isn't technology but better refereeing as evinced by the Joubert allusion.  Scotland benefited not so much from video replays twice yesterday but, quite simply, from having the best referee in world rugby officiate - one who knows when to use the technology available.

Maybe next time you could choose a topic less inflammatory to the P&B masses - like dressage ;)

People who argue rugby is cleaner than football in terms of lack of foul play miss an important difference between the two sports. Namely that NOBODY CARES about rugby. Football players are under actual pressure to win.
