Wide Fitting Trainers.

PB 4.2

Recommended Posts

Hi, PB here.   I'm a busy man.   One day I can be using the Crosstrainer at Bannatynes, the next I'm pounding the Queens at Gleneagles.    But it takes its toll, and on closer inspection, my trainers are in poor (borderline very poor) condition.    The sidewall stitching has been perishing on the offside since November 2017 and it's no longer watertight.    The punched eyelets are intact but the lace thread is perishing and resembles the hair of scarecrow or an old woman.   The glue isn't holding the sole.

Up to now, I've been fairly loyal to GOLA.   But their latest shoe the Gola Belmont hasn't proven a wise buy and I'm seriously tempted to use New Balance.

Anyone else have extra-extra wide feet?    If so, what shoes do you suggest?

Serious suggestions only please.

I believe Lonsdales have a softer leatherette that wrap around the fuller gentlemans foot, they also produce slip ons that a man of your size might appreciate as you wouldn't need to bend over so much to tie the laces. They are available from M and M Direct for around £15.

Nike generally cater well for the widely shod gentleman, but might be a bit mainstream for a Gola loyalist. Mizuno suit better as a more niche brand.

On a general lifestyle note, out of curiosity why do you maintain both a Gleneagles and Bannatynes membership, rather than using the Gleneagles leisure facilities and therefore remaining within their superior health/leisure ecosystem, and avoiding the  surely more down-market surroundings and clientele of  Bannatynes?

Nike only go one size EW.    I was first diagnosed as an EEW in 1989 and have used EEEW since easter '02.

A chap who takes his fitness as seriously as your good self should be looking at these for the cross trainer. Plenty of lateral give to accommodate a substantial foot.

My work takes me into Edinburgh and therefore I regularly attend the Queens st Bannatynes.   I also use the Dunfermline and Newcraighall branches on a monthly branches.   I used to use Perth but I fell out with manager and cafe staff.

Was it over portion sizes or had you flattened some of the chairs?

I have the same problems as the OP plus other issues.  My specialist recommended New Balance. On his advice, I bought a couple of pairs of 576s, made in Cumbria. They are very comfortable and are available in half sizes from top retailers, e.g. End Clothing. Hope this helps.

Message me with the trainers you picked.   Bought 3 pairs from Clarks shoes earlier today but cost me nearly £350!  Which is fine because I have a 5-figure salary.

I got this pair at Christmas and have another pair of 576s - light and very comfortable. I moved up half a size - https://www.newbalance.co.uk/men/shoes/lifestyle/made-in-uk-and-made-in-us/made-in-uk-collection/576-made-in-uk/M576-LM.html?dwvar_M576-LM_color=Blue_with_Grey#color=Blue_with_Grey&width=D

ETA - the standard D fit is much wider than Nike, Adidas etc.

My podiatrist also recommended  KSwiss tennis shoes - http://www.kswiss.com/uk/men/footwear/tennis?colors=Blue_White.  I wear Defiers in my normal size, the widest trainer that I have found. They are for hard courts - strong, sturdy and quite heavy for a trainer. KSwiss have other trainers in various colours. KSwiss running shoes and cross trainers are worth trying too.
