Speaks the voice of someone who has never met me!

Not big on contrived romance, or any of your typical romantic stuff to be honest. I'd rather have a Cadbury Creme Egg than a box of Milk Tray. I buy flowers, chocolate, jewellery and underwear that I like when I want or need it. I can go out for a meal any night of the year. A card sits there for a week then goes in the bin. It's a pointless waste of time and money.

You're right of course but you could say they same for Christmas and Birthdays but we still celebrate them.  The increase in disposable income everyone (particularly women) in general has available in recent times has diminished (and perhaps upped the ante) the very concept of a gift or a "treat" due to this ability to please ourselves whenever we want......which is a shame regardless of the cynical origins of Valentines day.

Lisa is just hankering after a good boabying with no strings.

Her DM's (once she deletes all of Zen Archers) will be full to the brim of offers. Well played.

I really don't  think we've conversed other than in person, that said, she would have the last word.

Does watching her through binoculars count as “in person”

who knows?

Is it true you serenaded her with this at the Sub Crawl, Zen? ;)

Birthdays are personal. They're about the person rather than the event so not the same at all. I guess you could make a similar argument for Christmas but that's a celebration for families rather than just couples. Valentines Day seems to me too be forced and contrived bollocks.

@Adam will tell you, I was of exactly the same opinion when we were together!

Like you say it's origins were somewhat contrived and not unlike Christmas,  it because overtly commercialised.  So I can see where your cynicism comes from but surely you'd miss that homemade valentines card from your kids or having a special home cooked dinner made for you? It doesn't have to be about spending fortunes on each other.

You're making a hell of an assumption that I won't be giving my wife a good seeing to on Wednesday....

That is verging on whiskychimp levels of creepiness.

Really?! What's the matter with your though process?! Your kids (assuming you have kids) don't give you a valentines card?!

I don't live in Fife, thankfully. Don't have kids but I certainly never sent my Dad a Valentines card.
